I'd love it if they could somehow include the earlier version with Ann Harding and Mary Astor.

Janus have tweeted that Martin Bell's Streetwise and its companion film Tiny will be getting a theatrical release this summer. The tweet has been liked by Criterion, and I'd be surprised if it isn't on their schedule.

Last time the 15th fell on a Saturday they gave us announcements the day before. Maybe it'll be the same this time around.

There's one thing on that Letterboxd list that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere before - Rosita (1923) .... and their justification for inclusion is rather unconvincing:

MOMA is currently completing a restoration with the participation of the Film Foundation. Considering their Lubitsch history and the idea of including Mary Pickford in the Collection, it seems likely (though is still low on the list considering it's silent and another label might do it).

Otherwise its a weird jumble of most all of the WCP films / random films picked from the Criterion Channel / random films picked from the directors section of my list. There doesn't appear to be anything that our list is missing + I hope people prefer my organization and upkeep a bit more.

I don't see why Criterion don't just give Almodovar the Bergman treatment with a huge set of everything up to at least BAD EDUCATION. Sony has the rights to everything since 2016. Restorations were already done on almost everything but PEPI LUCI BOM/LABYRINTH OF PASSION/MATADOR - and since these were acquired only after the previous batch of restorations you would think they would have done them as well now. Canal sat on releasing a second Almodovar box set of those restorations in the UK which would have featured all his more famous films. Criterion has released only two titles from those restorations. It's annoying when it's all just sitting there waiting to be put to disc.

Remember when Criterion was once on the receiving end of the Lynchian ire? Glad things are different now.

This may be old news, but Janus is screening a 4K restoration of "The Cranes Are Flying" this Friday at Film Forum. Not sure if it's even necessary to say that a BD upgrade is on the horizon.

On the Janus website it says blu-ray under it's description so I'm sure it's imminent.

It's strange that the Film Forum webpage only claims a 2K scan.

They have listed incorrect resto info before, for instance claimimg Room at the Top was a 4K restoration.

There was a claim more than ten years ago that Gosfilmofond had the original 70mm elements, but wasn't willing to loan them out. I wonder if this is still the holdup all these years later.
