pleased to see that. very glad they're going through their MGM titles - now if they can license the Joseph McBride track for The Apartment and majorly update their Mona Lisa cover we'll really be in businesss

Their edition of The Apartment was already outstanding, and bringing it back in-print is more than enough - especially if they reissue the LE

Unfortunately, many of Arrow's LE upgrades end up missing some of the LE exclusives

Exactly. I’m not selling my Apartment LE until they show the packaging. I’ve a hard time believing that they’re doing another print run of the hardcover book.

at the very least, the Bluray LE resale prices should drop. I was able to score Fear and Loathing fairly cheap cause lots of people just don't care about extras

The thing I remember most about The Apartment's book is that I felt the font was way too large. It felt like they had a page count that they had to reach and just kept cranking up the size until they hit that number. So if they shrink the font size a little, they should be able to carry over the essay. (On the other side of that is The Cell's booklet, where the font appears super small, almost like they commissioned the essays for a larger bound booklet and changed to a stapled one late in the process and had to shrink the text to minimize the number of pages.)

The Apartment book is one of the most padded Arrow book I've read. It felt like a 50 pages booklet padded to become a 150 paged book.

I don't know the ins and outs of this one, but when working on the Borowczyk box back in 2014, for various logistical reasons we had to definitively nail down the page count of the book well before we delivered the text. We were reasonably sure that we had enough to fill 350 pages (or whatever it was; certainly thereabouts), which thankfully turned out to be the case, but it wasn't until we got the first design proofs back that we were certain that everything worked as intended.
If I remember rightly, the books were printed in Poland (the cheapest deal we could get by far), the discs pressed in Austria and the packaging produced in another country (I forget which), and the suspense of hoping that everything would smoothly fit together was agonising. But fortunately it did.

Cliff MacMillan mentioned on a podcast they've got more Fortune Star and Toei titles. Working on a deal for new Sony titles. Asked Disney for Barbarian and Hellraiser 2022 and they said no; they want to be in charge of the film masters. Arrow lost rights to Society and Bride of Re-Animator. Let slip that Shout and Second Sight are still looking for the original negative of Day of the Dead. Cliff also said he is going to get three titles that people might be mad at him for since they all star a controversial actor. A BR member guessed Kevin Spacey who is in 3 WB titles: The Negotiator, A Time To Kill and Outbreak.

Could be Mel Gibson with
The Year of Living Dangerously and
Conspiracy Theory

He also all but confirmed they are releasing the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and prequel. And said he is going to inquire about Freddy vs. Jason and, for some reason, the Nightmare on Elm Street remake.

Did people get mad when they released The Usual Suspects? Not just for Spacey, but also Singer.

The LEs look to have been selling well, so I guess the commercial pros overweight the commercial cons.

If the 3 titles are indeed the Spacey ones mentioned, I’d be happy. As with many mid-budget films from the 90s, they have outdated BDs and should make great upgrades. Many of these films aren’t great but the occasional good one surely slips through here and there the more Arrow license. Luckily Kino can’t get a WB deal, otherwise they’d be all over these titles. Frank Tarzi said in one of these KL livestreams that he’d make a 100+ film deal if he could.

Might check out the podcast as seems to be a lot of leaks there. I'd be happy with an upgrade of A Time to Kill, that's one of the better Grisham adaptations, and I think you can get away with Spacey these days as long as he's not the main star (thinking the recent 4K edition of Seven, for example). A Year of Living Dangerously would be great too, and like Gallipoli could be just seen as a Peter Weir film more than a Gibson vehicle.
Interesting to hear they're going to go for more Sony stuff, I thought they'd closed the vaults (to Indicator at least). Wonder what they'll be going for there? I thought it was a shame Indicator didn't do a John Sayles set (City of Hope, Passion Fish, Limbo, Sunshine State) and there are still some decent options unavailable in the UK on Blu-ray they might be interested in (e.g. Adaptation, 8MM, Revenge, U-Turn, Thunderheart, The Beast of War).

We really need my Sayles on Blu Ray. The US release of City of Hope, though barebones (I think) is great and Passion Fish, Limbo & Sunshine State are well overdue, along with Return of the Seacaucus (MGA/UA?), Liana, Silver City, Honeydripper, and so on......

Yes, and he recorded fine commentaries for all of the films you mentioned. Sony holds many of his films here, while I believe the MGM titles have gone back to his production company. The original negatives for Secaucus, Lianna, and Brother From Another Planet are all at UCLA

Guess there are no Turtles fans here, since Arrow posted a teaser for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles yesterday and no one mentioned it. I assume it will be a set of the 3 live action New Line/Golden Harvest titles.

I've been completely off social media for a few weeks now. Huge news for me and my 5-year old self since I had Donatello attend my birthday party.
