I can't believe this (Kubrick) is the Criterion announcement. Unless Criterion was licensed to do the supplements. But this strikes me as a Warner Production. I still think we will get a CC/Godzilla announcement today. It's probably one huge coincidence that they are having same day special announcements.

Dude, this is not a joke. The Kubrick announcement Warners teased with a box shot and a countdown is T-SHIRTS. So, yes, absolutely this is not Criterion's Spine 1000, unless they are printing the number on the back of the shirt to literally align with one's spine

What better way to announce your edgelord status than by wearing a shirt with Alex DeLarge on it?

The Kubrick announcement is literally every child's Christmas nightmare come true.

Kubrick's been dead for 20 years and he's still inspiring conspiracy theories. Expert trolling.

There’s a whole countdown timer to it with its own dedicated website!
Okay, look, if Spine 1000 doesn’t end up being the Kubrick set now I’ll eat my own shoe.

Wow, catching up on this thread this morning has really been something. Someone really convinced themselves that it was an actual certainty that a Kubrick set was spine #1000 at this late date? The limits of suggestibility really have no end.

Calling it now: spine #1000 is a Godzilla t-shirt
edit: in a fancy box, of course

I'm far more interested in kcota17 posting a video of themself eating their own shoe than I'll ever be in whatever title might line up with any given spine number.
Come on, kcota, we're waiting... (If it's not too late, maybe Criterion could be convinced to include it as an extra in the Godzilla release.)

I'd even be happy with them just eating a box of shirts

Bad idea; Toho would take six more months deciding whether to approve it.

Spine number 1000 is Stanley Kubrick's 50 foot disembodied head destroying Tokyo with laser eyes, because he misread this thread and thought that Godzilla is responsible for the Stanley Kubrick Collection t-shirts and he is out for blood.
EDIT: nevermind its just Godzilla

I'm expecting Criterion to release Jonathan Demme's Citizens Band in the near-ish future now that they've got their cash-cow garbage out of the way. Nothing wrong with that. The Demme film is an Exhibit A, number-one example of the kind of film that is brilliant, horribly undervalued and underrecognized, and won't make them any money ever, that they should be releasing. No? Does anyone else here want this film to be rescued? And while they're at it, they could do Melvin and Howard and maybe a re-do of Something Wild with better special features. They could even throw in Married to the Mob, as the kind of genuine-but-retarded spiritual step-sister to these great films, and that film might actually sell okay or help the others sell better if they were in a set! Great idea Randall Maysin!!

I have many, many, many issues with everything said in that comment, but I'll limit my thoughts to how dare you, Married to the Mob is as good as any of those movies.

There's a lot of circumstantial evidence that library collections are the reason they still sell a decent amount of DVDs, so I wonder if they saw a notable difference of lower sales of new remasters on DVD.
Employee of the biggest functioning retail video store in the world here to state our sales, in 2019, break down 60/40 in favor of DVD. When I ask people if they want a DVD or a Blu-Ray the response most of the time is "whatever is cheaper".
Have you ever looked at the quality of most cable TV lately? It's still pretty terrible. The way a lot of people's TV sets are set up is a nightmare of weird setting and filters that make everything look the same anyway. That's what the everyman existence is like.

And with the announcement of the Godzilla boxset, we can announce the winner of the Cart-race and All-Around Cowpoke!
A tie between Graphist (for selecting When We Were Kings) and DRW.mov (for being the first to select a Haxan upgrade).
Bressonaire was disqualified (despite their 2-correct entry) for selecting Godzilla boxset after it was already leaked as being announced; thus DRW.mov wins the first to Haxan. Graphist + DRW.mov were one of the rare entries to actually get one guess correct, in a month of left-field picks.
So congratulations to Graphist + DRW.mov!
======================
For reference, the following were Unreleased Criterion laserdisc films:
Godzilla vs. Monster Zero (1965)
Godzilla vs. Mothra (1964)
Godzilla's Revenge (1969)
Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975)
Until next month,
Beloved star of the beach, we are waiting for you to be here.
