I think Barmy was his nom de plume.

I asked this @ Facebook:
I still haven't purchased THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST because of its eventual BD release - will you guys consider it?
Their reply:
Yes.

Right. But later someone asked:

"Any chance for a Bresson (Mouchette, Diary Country Priest, Balthazar) box set, maybe a blu-ray upgrade? I know all are released individually. Honest recommendation whether I should spring for them now or wait for a potential blu-ray release, I know Bresson might not be highest on the list so that's why I ask."

And they responded with:

"There are 500 titles in the collection at the moment. If we manage to get a couple of catalog Blu-rays into every month on top of our new release slate, it would take us 20 years to get to them all. We're trying to ramp up our capacity, but if you want to see these films, waiting is not going to be a good strategy."

Granted, LToC is probably on a higher priority schedule due to it being so well known, but them saying they'll consider it for an eventual Blu-ray release is a bit vague, and possibly not soon. (Though an Easter release would be an interesting cross promotion....)

In response to Ian, Criterion wrote:We do love our Don Siegel...
I really hope this hints at something. Of course INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS would be Criterion's first choice, but Universal's THE BEGUILED and CHARLEY VARRICK are both OOP and eminently worthy of their attention as well. An HD transfer of THE BEGUILED already exists and Universal only saw fit to release CHARLEY VARRICK in a hideously cropped full frame edition (now going for $100 on Amazon!).

Someone asked:
Belle du jour?
Criterion responded
Shhh...
I take that as good news.

I hope so. I have the Alliance disc (which is a port of the Miramax) and it's dreadful. The "bilingual" packaging is also one of the funnier ones I've come across: Alliance places the title twice on the cover, once is supposed to be the English text, the other is supposed to be the French text, and both say "Belle du jour". Good job!

Criterion says that neither Cronos or Stagecoach will be ready for March, and "...we have high hopes that we'll make a killing with some Kubrick some day."

Well, they said that The Umbrellas of Cherbourg was a "very long longshot," so I'm bummed.

Bah, I just bought this from DD, so I guess you're welcome everyone :) Still great news if the hint means something is actually in the works.

If they're just now asking for Naruse title suggestions, it means they've barely begun work on releasing anything. It will probably be a minimum of a year from now before we see another Naruse title from Criterion.

No, i think they are preparing more than one Naruse set, probably an Eclipse set plus mainline titles.

That's fine as a speculation, but I didn't read any eidence of that in their posts. They called Naruse Eclipse a "credible guess," for March, and then asked other people's preferences for Naruse. That could just be chit-chat!
