I know it seems unwieldy to predict for an additional month or two, but since we're nearing the end of 2015 it seemed easier to get it out of the way; it's just like killing two birds with one stone.

"The key to that Lois is, small birds, large stone."

Some of you actually think Criterion would release both Apu and Before trilogies in the same month? Have two substantial new spined boxed sets ever released in the same month? Apu is certainly a lock for November, but I don't expect the Before trilogy until 2016.

Apu Trilogy
Speedy
A Matter of Life and Death
Inside Llewyn Davis
Pickup on South Street
Mishima

DVD only though.
The original of About da Shuffle or the superior Richard Gear remake or the even superior James Franco version, where he's re-interpreting all the roles while wearing different fake beards?

The amount of extras on this month is staggering compared to what they have been putting out.

Hmm, I never saw the Apu trilogy, and the Eclipse set is a big question mark for me too (not a bad thing per se).

Dylan is always good. Code Inconnue is... a good Haneke. Never saw the Kurosawa. So all in all, I suppose this month is OK? :|
Criterion hasn't really released the OH HELL YEAH!! future I hope for these last few months. No Crash, BSD, Lost Highway, Hour of the Wolf, Rivette...
I must seem like a bit of a troll, really. But... I miss the time when Criterion released about three or four BDs a month that had me genuinely excited. Question is if that is due to rights issues, because "the canon" of films not released on BD gets smaller and smaller or if Criterion are going through their vault/backlog.

Great month, I may even blind buy the haneke.

Anything in the new years clue that fits code unknown or duvivier?

So that leaves for december:

New world
Wenders box
Inside llewyn Davis
This is spinal tap
Jellyfish eyes
Lady snowblood

Plus we know they're working on

Before trilogy
Wcp volume 2
The graduate
Bicycle thieves

There is a lot of driving in Code Unknown, so maybe the car? The most famous image is of Binoche screaming while inside a pool - which isn't to be found there. There's also a scene with a beggar that features prominently and war photography... aside of that, nothing comes to my mind as a striking image, so conclusively: no, not that I'd recall.

I figure New World might be postponed, at least if the rumored new cut should make it. Terry takes his time.

The Apu Trilogy is one of the best and most important film trilogies in all of world cinema. Part of the reason you haven't seen it, is that it took years for Criterion or a like-minded company to have the money and technical ability to restore these films which had been so badly damaged. To say it's been one of the most anticipated releases in all of Criterion's history is not an understatement.

Credit where it's due: this month almost makes up for the entire year. A fantastic looking Eclipse set, the aforementioned Ray films, a new 4k of In Cold Blood, a long awaited and badly needed upgrade in Ikiru and one of the finest music documentaries of all time. Not into Heneke, but obviously fans of his stuff will be happy.

I honestly think I'll be buying as many releases from November as I had wanted the rest of the year combined.

I haven't been keeping track, do the new year's clues all come out within that calendar year? Or within 12 months (i.e. until March 2016)?

If it's calendar year 2015 then you need to include Speedy for December (and whatever the clock is).

The Apu Trilogy alone obviously makes this an amazing month, but I'm almost as excited for the rest as well. What a great November!

They probably intend to put them all out that year, but don't always get around to it.

I'm beginning to suspect that New Year's clue that we all thought was Llewyn Davis was in fact meant to represent the Pennebaker film.

EDIT: I just checked the drawing again. It looks nothing like Dylan, beard and cat and all. I just assume that, since I already sold the existing edition of the Coen film, it probably won't be coming to Criterion anytime soon.
