That's typical for Arrow, too. I live in the US and have only ever bought directly from Arrow UK. I'm not sure why the discrepancy in prices exists.

The main reason is the US is a bigger market, so it costs more to license titles.

I would also think that MVD gets a cut in the US.

I'd be curious to see what percentage of titles are allocated to each region, especially limited runs of 3000, 5000, whatever. You'd think a larger audience base in the US would compensate for the higher licensing costs... but I'm no businessman, as my asshole boss at the video store once said to me, shortly before I quit, and shortly before he... went out of business. What a dick!

There is still at least one of these available but Fran tweeted 9 hours ago that there were only 10 left at that time...

Apologies for the inane packaging question:

“full-height Scanavo packaging”

Can someone more educated than I tell me if that means these are standard DVD height or standard blu-ray height? I’ve never heard of or seen a 3/4 height Scanavo blu-ray so I’m confused about the “full height” description…

I’m taking that to mean Criterion-style boxes without the Blu-Ray logo bar at the top, thus leaving the full height of the case for unobstructed artwork.

Gotcha. Thanks CSM126! Wasn’t looking forward to adding a bunch of DVD height cases to my collection!

yes, Indicator has advertised that before and I think MOC and BFI have both been moving in that direction with their recent releases. pretty glad they're doing that, because while I enjoyed the greater artwork range of DVDs, there's something perfect about the BD case size. good compromise here

thank you for making a separate forum for Radiance, after a lot of us spent a lot of money on the gold package and their releases seem pretty in line with what this forum wants, I think we can have some great discussion of their titles like we do for Second Run.

I actually think Radiance will be a brilliant and much-needed label in the UK market. Not only are a lot of the usual labels somewhat reluctant to cover most of what they've announced so far - largely Western European and East Asian cinema that's decidedly not your obvious cult genre affair (e.g. giallo, poliziotteschi, spaghetti western, wuxia/kung fu, kaiju etc; not that any of that will be out of the question of course, this is only the launch slate after all) - but they're also doing some semi-maligned American cult cinema too (the kinds of titles not frequently upgraded to Blu-ray, but deserve to be). I hope this has an affect on other labels too, who will see what's possible and follow suit (notice a variety of labels tend to notice a director/genre is selling well for another label and license something similar). I think it's quite smart to compliment what Second Run, Indicator, Eureka, Arrow, BFI and 88 are often attempting to do with their diverse title choices, but also not step on their toes by selecting stuff they aren't generally even considering. Fran and co definitely know the market and how to survive within it!

And talking of subscriptions, I asked on Twitter and it was implied we may see Silver/Bronze packages towards the end of the year. Hoping that'll be from a certain date as I've obviously already pre-ordered some titles. Also mentioned October 5th will be the next batch of announcements! :)

I also think it's a good move to have Radiance have their own sub-forum. More labels, more different genres and types of cinema to cover. I also seem to remember Fran saying they were open to doing UHDs if the title's prospects and source materials allow for it.

Fran, if you're reading this, I'd like to suggest Black Bear with Audrey Plaza, and the horror fairy tale You Won't Be Alone, both of which Universal annoyingly dumped on digital only with no physical releases so far. And if Studio Canal are open to licensing to you, please rescue Jean Renoir's LA BETE HUMAINE which SC themselves never released outside France in an English-friendly edition and which Criterion will probably only get to in 2037.

Excellent idea!

Hirobumi Watanabe's And The Mud Ship Sails Away... is a fantastic movie. Since its release on Blu-ray several years back, he's released seven more films and none of them have seen any sort of real distribution in the west. I would love to see one or more of them.

I can see them releasing Compartment tueurs for sure, and maybe Un homme a abattre. Hopefully not just the titles KLSC has already licensed, but those would probably be the rest of my guesses… or maybe an Enki Bilal set?

I'd send Fran a chef's kiss if he does a UHD of Mysteries of Lisbon (I know, I know but one can dream). More likely, Blu-Ray editions of some or all of titles in the English-friendly French DVD box set from a few years back. Do we know if City of Pirates and other key films have had a recent restoration?

Ah. I assumed Tanner's La Vallée fantôme was out of the question as well.
