Akerman is fine since its a packed boxset. But Mudbound is an awful monochromatic geometric eyesore, ugh.

So it seems according to Criterion web page that the digipack of Trainspotting will be "phosphorescent" if you turn off the light ? Like the good old memories of Pif Gadget when we were kids in France.
Funny they didn't have the idea for Repo-Man if this is the case...

It could be part of a limited print run, if
Time Bandits’ lenticular slip is any indicator, so maybe you’ll be able to offload it

It is good to see Jacob Phillips(Lone Star) following in his dad's footsteps as a Criterion cover artist (Sean Phillips -- Blast of Silence, In the Heat of the Night, Night of the Living Dead, et al.). Both are excellent artists.

Freaks was scanned in 5K? I've heard of VistaVision films being scanned in 6K but this is the first time I've heard of a film being scanned in 5K.

Yep, the booklet says 5K at least.

George Feltonstein mentioned on a previous Extras Podcast is that he would like to talk about the Freaks restoration in the near future. So, stay tuned

Movies are regularly scanned at 5k so that once the framing is applied, you're sure to retain a 4k resolution (ie 4096 pixels high and 2160 wide - depending on the movie's AR, one spec or the other is going to be the bottleneck). However, it's not systematically precised in tech details, so it can be hard knowing exactly at which resolution it's been scanned.
This is usually referred as Overscanning.

Usually the higher resolution is so that the image can be captured way outside the aperture. The 2K restoration of Napoleon was scanned in such a way an extra perf above and below were captured to enable more efficient stabilization. Rougher elements like for Freaks probably need a lot of stabilization.

The Akerman set will be a digi

Yeah at this point I think we can just assume 3-disc sets with $100 MSRP = Digi, $80 MSRP = Scanavo (4-disc $100 seems likely to be Scanavo, i.e. Widerberg)

The Last Picture Show [4K] (Booklet)
Jackie Chan: Emergence of a Superstar (Booklet)
Mean Streets [4K]
La cérémonie
Texasville is licensed from MGM.
The slip for the Jackie Chan set is sturdy
but a bit tight.
Restoration information found at the bottom of these pages:

Funny I stopped by 3 different b&n stores today looking for Last Picture Show. The first one I looked everywhere, even behind the counter and none were there (they are usually really great about having new releases out on release day, several copies usually). The second had none out either, but by that time I was more interested in hitting the best buy which was nearby for their (final) black friday sale (finally!). The third I stopped by on my way to another best buy and this time bothered to ask them where they were, and eventually they dug 5 copies out of a box behind the counter (took them a while to figure out where they were). All of them had that same thing where the artwork was shoved way up high into the top of the case. I imagine they must all be that way. Took a pass on them. Annoying b&n day, did all right at best buy. (Rush hours really suck these days too, it's nice to not have to deal with those much any more either.)

Nice to see Alice X Zhang’s work (credited as “Yang” for some reason, though?)

If I’m not mistaken (it’s been a few years since I’ve seen it), A Tale of Winter features a pretty major spoiler.

Nothing But A Man. Good title for that black and white photograph. Or is it the other way around?

I have to say I'm a fan of Jennifer Dionisio's work. I really like her covers for Criterion and the ones she has done for Arrow and the BFI

I like that she's become a go-to for Bogart, given she did
High Sierra,
The Desperate Hours, and now this. if only WB had hired her for
Casablanca instead of what we got!!!
definitely a fan of the cover. I didn't love her Renoir covers but I appreciate all of her other work a lot so far. the Johnnie To cover is pretty nice too,
Mona Lisa was one of the best ever Criterion covers so I'm glad Alice got brought back. shame the movies aren't as much my thing
