I haven’t seen the video yet but if one of Ben’s closet picks isn’t Matt Damon I’m gonna be pissed.

They posted a video of Rosamund Pike in the closet a couple of days ago and a Carrie Coon video a month or two back. If the closet videos still had anything to do with upcoming releases, I'd stay Gone Girl was in the works, but they don't.

They do still count sometimes. Richard E Grant for the Robinson upgrades, Zeinabu irene Davis for Compensation, Payal Kapadia before All We Imagine as Light, and Dylan Baker with Happiness.

They are all just promoting different things. Carrie Coon was in the third season of The White Lotus, Pike has a thriller coming out soon and Affleck is back on screen with The Accountant 2.

Isn't that mostly because he does loads of impressions of Billy Bob Thornton's Southern accent from Sling Blade, as if he continued to do it whilst he was playing the guy running the NASA control room?

I'd love Good Will Hunting, and if Criterion are going to do do as much Gus Van Sant as possible that would be great (though they really should rescue Even Cowgirls Get The Blues first!)

Occasionally, but not frequently enough to use as a tool to guess future releases.

On the topic of Van Sant, Elephant is top priority at this point (ideally, we could get a set of the Death Trilogy + Paranoid Park, maybe even including Clarke's short as a supplement as with the old French DVD) and considering Criterion's relationships with Warner and Van Sant, I'm somewhat surprised we haven't heard any word of a release. An upgrade of Mala Noche (whether here or internationally) would be nice aswell.

Absolutely. Elephant may be Van Sant's best film. It is certainly the one I revisit the most. And I love Gerry too. Though if Criterion were putting the Death trilogy out (with the Kurt Cobain-related Last Days) then there would be a great opportunity for thematically paired releases of Alan Clarke's Elephant, Daft Punk's 'figures in a landscape' film Electroma (which feels really Gerry-inspired) and either Nick Broomfield's Kurt and Courtney documentary or another weird music artist biopic like I'm Not There!

(And putting out Paranoid Park would be a great opportunity to pair it up with Larry Clark's Wassup Rockers!)

FWIW, during his Q&A's, he apologized for the sunglasses and said his doctor told him to wear them due to some issues he's having with his eyes. (He said it was due to spending too much time viewing screens while editing, so maybe eye strain?)

I still don’t know how anyone can feel they “don't find her very funny or charming,” especially after watching this (they know who I’m talking about).

For the record I do like her (I wouldn't adore Poker Face otherwise), but just not "enamored" with her shtick. Different strokes

Different strokes indeed (I assume you view Peter Falk’s shtick in a similar way), although I must ask if you’ve seen But I’m a Cheerleader because to me it’s the one that made me fall in love with her with her delivering a wonderfully campy & lovely performance.

Real ones remember her in Slums of Beverly Hills (which, actually, would fit right in with Criterion’s recent focus areas, if they can pry it away from Disney) first— she actually had a lot of buzz with that film that never really materialized into the more belated success she’s enjoying these days. She’s also the narrator of Everyone Says I Love You

That’s two Closet videos in a row for me where Town Bloody Hall was picked — the other being Maura Tierney. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it picked before this point. It’s been on my radar for ages to see, but never on my short list. I guess I need to change that.
