Obviously he'll be primarily remembered for musical reasons, but he also acted in Derek Jarman's Caravaggio and Sally Potter's Orlando.
And busking on London's streets, primarily in Soho and around Waterloo Bridge. Lovely gentle guy I used to bump into now and again. He's also in Sally Potter's London Story.

You are correct -- Mr. Bergan (whose work I've never encountered before, so far as I can recall) did an excellent job.

Barrie Maxwell, who had been writing the "Classic Coming Attractions" column at The Digital Bits for the last 10 years.

"Classic Coming Attractions" was always essential reading for me in the heyday of classic catalog releases by the studios.

It was my favorite column on the Bits site - very sad indeed. RIP Barrie!

Yahoo is reporting that Richard D. Zanuck died from a heart attack. I would give the link, but I don't know how to change it to a word, or name.

That's a shame. At least for what he did with the Apes series is worth him being respected. A lot of amazing work there.

To start with the amazing Compulsion and end with...eh Dark Shadows. That's quite the career arc.

Sage Stallone, who appeared with his father in Rocky V.

That's terribly young - Sage Stallone also ran the film distribution company Grindhouse Releasing, doing theatrical releases of Lucio Fulci's The Beyond and Cat In The Brain, Pieces, Cannibal Ferox and Cannibal Holocaust, and then after partnering with Anchor Bay on The Beyond putting out the films on DVD under their own label.

EDIT: There's a very nice tribute here (I had no idea that Sage Stallone was also in that last Vincent Gallo film that he withdrew from circulation, Promises Written In Water)

Horrible news about Sage Stallone's passing, being a fan of his work at Grindhouse.

He writes the bulk of the film obits for the Guardian - our paths crossed a few years ago when we were researching Walerian Borowczyk obituaries at the same time.

Isuzu Yamada addendum -- thanks to a thread on the KineJaopan mailing list. Yamada was married only 4 times (not 6 times) -- and was never married to Kinugasa. These errors showed up in several English language obituaries (based on incorrect information in the Anderson and Richie book from long ago).

I genuinely had a heart-stopping moment when I started reading at the top of this page, as I did at the bottom of the previous one when someone mentioned Kirk Douglas.
Yes, and further back still to find the truly heartbreaking news that The Queen of Country Music (it was once suggested that Dowager Empress might be more accurate), Miss Kitty Wells had passed. I first started to listen to her, many, many years ago, after noticing her poster in Karen Carpenter's dressing room in SUPERSTAR - go figure - and I've remained grateful to Todd Haynes ever since!

Morgan Paull, remembered primarily for his role in BLADE RUNNER; he was also heavily involved in the casting process for that film as he played "Deckard" in the audition readings.
