Since they're doing The Dirty Dozen, it will be great if Arrow can do Where Eagles Dare and Kelly's Heroes next.

No Country for Old Men deserves a UK 4K release too, but it's Paramount so that might prove difficult - if Criterion can't license it for the UK, who else can?

Anyway, Fargo is great news and I'll definitely be getting it. Quite up for The Dirty Dozen and WarGames too, even if I already have the older catalogue discs. I'm sure Arrow will make them definitive editions, particularly the former which desperately needed remastering (I wonder if they could also get one or two of the TV sequels as well, like they did for The Great Escape).

(Funnily enough, I think I suggested WarGames to Transmission recently.)
NO COUNTRY does have a 4K coming from Australia via All Interactive so not all hope is lost for the Region B market, though you might just be better off importing the Criterion at this point.

Also, I guessed WARGAMES was with 88, alongside FARGO. I assumed at one point Arrow were not interested in FARGO considering word is it had been offered to Radiance and Fran turned it down because he thought it would betray the mission of the label, despite him admitting it would've been a good financial decision.

There sadly aren't many good 'men on a mission' movies out there, but Where Eagles Dare is definitely one of them

I need to rewatch it one of these days, but I watch Where Eagles Dare a lot back in middle school. It's a kickass film.

I would go for several Criterion US-only 4K releases if it wasn't for the fact the Blu-ray disc with all the extras on is locked to Region A, so I'm actually more likely to import a 4K disc from elsewhere to save money since I can't access the extras. Seems we're at this awkward point in time where boutique labels are putting films on 4K UHD but the extras are still region locked, shutting out droves of collectors from enjoying the extras they've spent time creating (Arrow can be guilty of the same with their US-only 4K releases).

88 Films are all over the place these days. I felt surprised and yet somehow not surprised when they announced Hard Eight, Last Tango in Paris and The Pink Panther for example, as these are titles I'd previously expected from the likes of Arrow or Eureka and they've somehow failed to deliver them.

I can't blame Fran for turning down Fargo too much, as it does feel far too mainstream for Radiance, but I'd have hoped he might consider licensing a different Coen Brothers film (Barton Fink or The Hudsucker Proxy were the most likely examples I gave above, seeing as their earlier films are tied up). Radiance seem resistant to setting up a Universal deal though, so perhaps that's what is preventing such a thing from occurring (or maybe it's actually at Universal's end, since we haven't seen a huge number of Arrow collaborations of late either).

I thought you had a Panasonic player, if so that works via top menu trick with all Criterion blu rays released post 2010.

Cliff MacMillan did an interview on YouTube today and I think the biggest news out if it is that Arrow's deal for the New World titles has ended and someone else (he didn't name them, but it appears to be Shout Factory) has the rights now. I don't know if this is just a US issue or if Arrow has also lost the UK rights.

If that's the case, it's quite surprising. I thought Warner would release Bullitt themselves.

I assumed Criterion had it. Very interested to see if they have The Getaway or The Cincinnati Kid as well.

Maybe we'll get another Golden Princess title for December. They seem to be spacing them out for every two or three months. Dylan Cheung did say he wasn't going to do more translations because of the tight schedules, so I wonder if that's part of the reason for why we don't see them on a monthly basis to accommodate Dylan. Given that they did all three Chinese Ghost Stories in 4K, I'm hopeful they can do the same for the Swordsman films too. The two Prison on Fire films with Chow Yun-Fat are also still outstanding, as is Full Contact.

Not a fan of Bullitt, so selfishly hoping this is a clue for The Getaway instead (but probably not). And if that Peckinpah isn't happening, then an upgrade of Garcia.

From the Reddit source, some/most of the UK titles:

Blue Velvet (Limited Edition 4K) - £29.99 (Blu-Ray £24.99) - 7/12/26
Black Christmas 1974 (Limited Edition 4K) - £24.99 - 7/12/26
Bullitt (Limited Edition 4K) - £24.99 (Blu-Ray £17.99) - 7/12/26
Pedicab Driver (Limited Edition 4K) - £24.99 (Blu-Ray £17.99) - 14/12/26
When Harry Met Sally (Limited Edition 4K) - £24.99 (Blu-Ray £17.99) - 14/12/26
Logan's Run (Limited Edition 4K) - £34.99 (Blu-Ray £29.99) - 14/12/26

I think I'm good with Shout's fantastic 4K for Black Christmas but in for Sammo and maybe Blue Velvet.

Blue Velvet is fantastic news, really happy we're finally getting that here. Would've been a tricky one as UK rights are with High Fliers, but the fact they got Trick or Treat for Toy Robot indicated they must have struck a deal with them. Hoping this leads to the speculated Halloween box set (High Fliers have 2 and 3), as well as The Dead Zone, both of which have been sorely missed on UK Blu-ray let alone 4K. Instant pre-order, no hesitation.

Also very happy about Bullitt, which was rumoured to be coming from Criterion but will be far more affordable from Arrow. Similarly interested in double-dipping on Black Christmas, When Harry Met Sally and Logan's Run, so a great set of announcements (interesting the latter is a more expensive release, usually indicating multiple discs). Pedicab Driver was a repeatedly requested title, so I'm sure that'll please a lot of Sammo Hung fans.

Now that we appear to be getting a great wave of the classic dystopian sci-fi films with Westworld, Soylent Green and Logan's Run, I am curious about whether the original Rollerball or Truffaut's Fahrenheit 451 could be possibilities?

Is there anything lacking from the Criterion package that people are hoping for to be included? I haven't bought it yet, but now I will hold out to see how this shapes up.

Not stated to be Arrow but Kōji Shiraishi's Senritsu Kaiki File Kowasugi series has finally been licensed by an English-language distributor. A big undertaking considering there are seven/nine feature films in the series (which makes me think it's Arrow). It's unknown if they are getting a physical release, and there's seemingly no interest in licensing the short films.

Booklet contents aside, only Criterion extras omitted are the Badalamenti interview and Room to Dream excerpts; while Arrow's improvements include the alternate 5.1 track, The Lost Footage and Blue Velvet Revisited getting lossless audio (and normal feature-quality compression); and carries over the few extras from the MGM Blu-ray that Criterion didn't include like the trailer and TV spots, Siskel and Ebert review, and some other odds and ends. I feel like owning the Criterion Blu and the Arrow 4K would probably give you the perfect dual format package.

The Criterion was slightly trimmed by Lynch, and I hope the Arrow omits that

They replied to my (quoted) question about Blue Velvet. I assume the trim mentioned is about the opening vignette being subtly recut, and has to do with some frames or a dissolve missing, though i am not entirely clear. Unless there are other changes I am unaware of.

I assumed beamish was referring to one of the extras mentioned in the previous post. Had no idea the film itself was altered. Or is that just you hazarding a guess?

My post was in part due to getting tired of people posting on this forum lately about a particular event, statement, or piece of news in a way that assumes everyone already knows what they’re talking about (or have need of no more information). Intended or otherwise, it feels like a vague sort of gatekeeping that’s completely unnecessary (none of this is directed specifically at you, beamish14).
