Yeah, it's an adore-it-or-meh movie, but I'd agree with Dom that it's probably a safe blind buy for you. Defiantly unrealistic, highly stylized formal expressions of heightened emotional states, and kind of an inverted
Chambre 212, if that helps any.
Thanks for expanding- you sold me!

This one is still the best blind purchase I ever made from KLStudio Classics. I really can't think of anything I've seen from quite like it (especially as a studio film). Along with (
Driftwood which I know you also appreciated) these are the two titles I've been telling everyone to scoop up before they're gone.

Does the existing Good/Bad/Ugly 4k disc currently available on the website include a blu-ray of the same restoration?

Yes. Most of the supplements were also re-encoded better than the previous version, too.

At $9.99,
Indiscretion of an American Wife is a no-brainer, though I wonder if Criterion has plans to ever upgrade their edition? I'll also be grabbing the restored
Nothing Sacred for the same price.

Another Siodmak film coming in November, Deported (1950). I haven't seen it. Any takers here?

Coming November 2nd on Blu-ray & DVD!
The Mad Doctor (1940)
• NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian David Del Valle
• Theatrical Trailer
• Optional English Subtitles
90 Minutes B&W 1.37:1 Not Rated
Death Lurked in His Hypnotic Eyes! In the nerve-jangling thriller The Mad Doctor, the great Basil Rathbone (The Black Sleep, The Comedy of Terrors) is Dr. George Sebastian, a smooth and sinister physician who woos, weds and murders several of his wealthy women patients for their fortunes. Aided by his demented manservant (Martin Kosleck, House of Horrors), he sets up a Park Avenue psychiatry practice and effects an apparently miraculous cure for troubled heiress Linda Boothe (Ellen Drew, Isle of the Dead), whom he makes his fourth wife. Can the suspicious Dr. Downer (Ralph Morgan, Strange Interlude) and Linda’s ex-fiancé Gil (John Howard, The Undying Monster) foil Sebastian’s schemes and save Linda before it’s too late? Rathbone is splendid as the diabolically debonair doctor in this psychological chiller from director Tim Whelan (The Murder Man, The Thief of Bagdad) and cinematographer Ted Tetzlaff (My Man Godfrey, Notorious).

Kino have confirmed a 4K release of… Mystery Men…

...and that apparently the OCN for The Long Goodbye is in too poor a shape to justify a 4k release (despite it getting a 4k scan...).

I’m not mad about more 4K titles and in all honesty will probably buy it at release, I just find it an extremely odd title to choose considering Kino’s apprehensions they’ve expressed relatively recently. (Clearly with their rapidly expanding footprint in the UHD sphere those apprehensions have partially eroded)
They have also confirmed they are actively considering upping the rerelease of Planet of the Vampires to a 4K release, which is exciting.

A shame but I can believe it. A lot of the Altman prints I've seen simply don't have as much detail as you'd think, even when they're in great shape or newly struck. It's hard to imagine them looking that impressive if the OCN's deteriorated.

It's a shame even studios like Kino perceive UHD in this way as if the resolution bump is the only thing that amtters.

My impression is it’s also that a lot more digital clean-up work is needed to match the resolution bump which adds quite a bit to the cost if you have a not great source. Clearly Kino did consider it but really did determine it was not feasible for this movie so I will take their word (especially as it’s not like Arrow have shown any interest in upgrading any of their MGM titles anytime soon).

And they’ll struggle to get rid of that notorious white spot that’s near the middle of the screen for several minutes - my hypothesis is that it’s a speck of dirt that got into the optical printer when a dissolve to a very lengthy shot was created, but it’s all but impossible to remove digitally as the camera (and film grain) is moving constantly underneath it.

Any mention of what decade the shows are from? Any chance we're getting Alfred Hitchcock Presents?
I’m guessing
Night Gallery is one of them
And I was correct

Wow. Nice how they got commentaries for multiple episodes. Fingers crossed they get John Badham (who has recorded great ones for multiple films of his that KL has released) for Season 2.
I still hope they eventually license Universal's
Amazing Stories, which curiously never even had its second season get a DVD release.

Another Scream Factory re-issue from Kino: New Year's Evil (1980) with a new 2K master. I don't know why the Kino Insider got so pissy at someone asking if they were going to re-issue Sleepaway Camp 2 and Sleepaway Camp 3 when it turns out they are re-releasing this garbage.

Looks good! Fingers crossed that this and Sunday in the Country sell so well for Kino they'll consider porting over The Judge and The Assassin and a couple other Taverniers.
