Apologies if this isn't the correct thread, but I was wondering if the KL Insider's behavior has, shall we say, improved on other forums? Because I've been holding out on Kino releases until they got their act together and stopped being rude to their customers, but there are plenty of releases from them I want to get.

No, they are pretty much as argumentative as ever.

That's unfortunate, but thanks. I'll weigh my options or just buy any Kino releases used.

Why deprive yourself of this company's abundant output because one informal rep is off-putting on internet forums? That'd be like not purchasing a product you love because the guy on the TV ads is obnoxious

Ah, you have a point. Their posts just always rubbed me the wrong way, and I didn't want to support a label that thought KL Insider was an appropriate face for their company. (It didn't help Kino tends, or tended, to throw a lot of films on disc without adding much or anything in the way of extras.) But that doesn't mean all of Kino's employees share in their attitude.
I'll give it some more thought, but I'll likely start buying their releases. I already have a couple from their sub-labels I like.

The mods of HTF are constantly falling over themselves to stop people from asking KL Insider questions he doesn't want to answer.

Wow. Nice how they got commentaries for multiple episodes. Fingers crossed they get John Badham (who has recorded great ones for multiple films of his that KL has released) for Season 2.
I still hope they eventually license Universal's
Amazing Stories, which curiously never even had its second season get a DVD release.
Just so you’re aware, Umbrella released a region free Amazing Stories Season 2 DVD set a few years ago. It plays perfectly fine in my player.

I think the current set-up is perfect: let the bootlickers on the Blu-ray forum kiss his ass to get sneak peeks of upcoming releases, and then the news trickles down to the rest of us without having to deal with the multiple headaches behind that account

KL Insider...
Both weekend announcements are upcoming 4KUHD releases. Saturday a 2000s Universal one and Sunday, a late 1950s MGM one.
Also, we've added the 4KUHD rights to one of our 1970s films from the second Universal deal, already released by us on Blu-ray and a yet to be announced 1990s film from the third Universal deal.

And will be upscaled from the 2k DI rather than going back to the negative.

Is there one case in which a modern 2K-finished film has a 4K remaster from OCN ? They have to redo all the editing and effects if going down this route.

Not that I can think of offhand. Even Lord of the Rings was "just" a 2k upscale, so something like In Bruges doesn't stand a chance. I think I heard Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was rumoured to be, for the new Indy 4K set.
Not that there is anything wrong with a 2K upscale. Going back and redoing the entire post production of the film but in 4K would be unlikely to yield some huge upgrade anyway (precisely why films were and still are done at 2K, and that's specifically for cinema size screens!). Better to spend the money focusing on the HDR and WCG side of things, so as to yield a true upgrade.

Love Rites coming out from Kino in August
Coming to DVD and Blu-ray August 31st from Kino Classics and StudioCanal!
Love Rites (Cérémonie d'amour, 1987)
Directed by Walerian Borowczyk
Starring Marina Pierro and Mathieu Carrière
Love Rites (Cérémonie d’amour) is cult director Walerian Borowczyk’s (The Beast) subversively erotic final feature. He returns with a vengeance to a signature theme—emasculation. Vain clothing buyer Hugo (Mathieu Carrière) meets beautiful Myriam (Marina Pierro) on the subway and pursues her, discovering to his delight that she’s a prostitute. The crafty Myriam, of course, has more in mind for their encounter than smug Hugo bargained for. Love Rites turns the sexual tables with perverse exactitude.
Special Features:
*Shorter Director's Cut of the Feature (93 minutes, Blu-ray only)
*Brief von Paris (1976, short film by Walerian Borowczyk)
*Audio commentary by film historian Daniel Bird
*New interview with Mathieu Carrière
*Optional English subtitles
*Trailer
Beaver.

Is Daniel Bird still with Arrow? Is it weird that he's contributing to this release instead of an Arrow one?

He never was “with Arrow”, any more than he was ever “with Mondo Vision” - like me, he’s always been a freelancer who’s happy to work with any label on a project-by-project basis.
So the answer is “no”.

If I'm not mistaken, Criterion did the 4K master for this. I wonder if MGM did the right thing and offered them the UHD rights first or, most likely, did they license it to Kino without letting Criterion have a chance to get them? (I have the same question about
Invasion of the Bodysnatchers. Scream did the 4K, did MGM give them a chance to get the UHD rights first or not?)

I would think just out of courtesy MGM asked Criterion first. CC can’t say yes to everything

The Criterion leaflet stated it was a collaboration between Criterion, MGM, and Park Circus. In regards to Body Snatchers Scream's was a 2K scan from the IP and Kino's is a 4K scan from the negative.

It wouldn't matter as UHD rights are separate licenses like how Blu and DVD rights are.

In regards to upcoming UHD title announcements, there's still at least 15 remaining:
MGM 1950s-1980s x11
Universal 1970s x1
Universal 1990s x1
Universal 2000s x1
Universal 2010s x1

My mistake about
Invasion.
To your last point, the fact that the right are separate isn't the issue. A licensee is usually given a chance to re-up their rights (unless they are doing things they shouldn't) before they are offered to other companies, so the current licensee should have been given the option for the UHD rights first.
