Wait, why wouldn’t Criterion release
The Trial on UHD, Bressonaire?
I legitimately predicted that. for pure chaos purposes...would be a ridiculously baffling decision on their part when
Rules of the Game and
Breathless got them. but hopefully that part isn't true!

Isn’t
Sleuth still stuck in the same purgatory as
The Heartbreak Kid (1972)?

It’s allegedly about to get a Blu-ray release in France, but I think some healthy skepticism is due until it actually exists

Is Sleuth ‘72 really on the radar? That would be awesome.
Probably not. It will forever be stuck in Bristol Meyer purgatory.

Didn't mean to get anyone's hopes up. I just threw it in there as a "well, you never know" sort
of guess. After all, I've had that old Anchor Bay dvd release sitting on my shelf for TWENTY
years now.

A Bristol Myers Squibb deal would be huge for Criterion, if for no reason other than The Stepford Wives. But color me skeptical as well.

Probably the same reasons why The Servant isn’t

After the Renown Westerns received the UHD treatment I feel anything is game for the format honestly, so there’s no way to predict. I just wish Criterion adopted a 4K policy closer to that of the big UK boutiques where they only do a 4K when the available elements technologically justify it rather than being concerned with the optics of In The Mood For Love being available on “UHD Blu ray from the Criterion Collection”.
P.S. I don’t know enough about the Renown masters to know whether or not a 4K release is justified on strictly technical grounds, but for what it’s worth, I’d expect a 4K of The Servant to move more units than the Boetticher set.
I don’t know the numbers, but titles like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and the Wes Andersons aside, I feel the “classic arthouse” titles from the late 50s and sixties tend to be their biggest sellers, even outselling stuff like The Red Shoes(4K of course worthy on technical grounds) and Rules of the Game. Seven Samurai is also a flagship title, but there are all those Toho issues of course.
