all in, but it definitely needs a new restoration, something it lacks. it'll sadly probably be the last of them -
Nashville,
Harold and Maude, and
La Dolce Vita have 4K scans and more recent restorations, and I believe it was confirmed Paramount were keeping
Rosemary's Baby? I'm surprised we haven't seen
Badlands or
Days of Heaven get the UHD bump yet. what is Malick up to?
I'm not surprised Paramount's keeping
Rosemary's Baby (even without the Polanski of it all, that title was a get for Criterion in the first place), but I could easily see
Nashville and
Harold and Maude returning, given that those Paramount Presents releases are not (to my knowledge) 4K releases; if Criterion can get them back, that would be a convenient reason to do so
As for what Malick is up to, he's (allegedly) still finishing up his Jesus movie; he needs at least an extra five years to cut out half the cast
Nashville and Harold and Maude were both digitally released in 4K by Paramount if that means anything. Likewise Rosemary’s Baby of course.

they weren't UHDs, no. and were also butcher jobs of pretty good restorations (
Harold and Maude was rather egregiously cropped), so there's plenty of reason for them to come back.
Don't Look Now is the only one served by a superior disc elsewhere, so naturally its the first one we're getting!
of course that's what he's up to. sorry, I'm one of the ones that only likes the 70s titles (but I
love them, DoH being a top 10 movie for me)

Is it possible StudioCanal rather than Paramount is involved in Don’t Look Now returning to Criterion, or is it confirmed SC has nothing to do with Don’t Look Now in North America?
I believe Paramount hold that one outright here, they even released it on their own Bluray back in 2021. there have been a few titles SC released in region B that they have nothing to do with in region A, including
The Virgin Suicides and
Breathless, both of which Criterion have of course upgraded to UHD from different rightsholders (including Paramount!).
Mulholland Drive was the only one where we had a rightsholder change, but that's cause of the director (see also how
Lost Highway was a Universal title previously, now licensed from MK2)

My thought process was basically “I assume Criterion will put out at least one UHD title every month from here on out, so…”

Criterion has a better chance of heisting the Disney vault to release five Fox titles than put out a film this steeped in controversy surrounding the nonconsensual sexual exploitation of a woman by a man

"Straw Dogs" is still in the Criterion catalogue ?- even the last Disney "Little Mermaid" could have some controversial comments about the woman/little mermaid's consent. And the man's gaze/woman representation; even if Disney is now "awoke"; and his documentaries with lemmings falling remaining relics from the past; or the hall of shame.

Yes, these would certainly be viewed as similar things: A real woman claiming she was manipulated while drunk into having sex on camera post-#metoo, and a dated cartoon. We're not talking about convincing people here that moral relativity is a thing, we're talking about the public clearly not holding space for it, and even if they did, the line would be drawn way closer to one of the poles you're bafflingly comparing

sorry; I have removed everything; I did not know what was around Mektoub part 2 - I thought that it was a producer/conflict with the A.Kechiche; there has been a lot #metoo in France, even recently with Vahina Giocante or some recent movies in France.
So I think that it's better to remove the whole list since J.Toback is also problematic from what I read. And even for Desplechin.

Only one is a very publicized fiasco so I wouldn't worry about the Desplechin. I also want to be very clear that I was trying to make a quip based on the "Who knows?" insert you made after guessing that film (it was clear you weren't aware of the details). There's no reason why you should remove your post of guesses...

I don’t know why, but for some reason I don’t see Werckmeister Harmonies getting a UHD, especially since they didn’t give EO a UHD, even though it was *the* European arthouse film of the last few years. I’m sure a Blue Velvet UHD will happen sooner or later though. Likewise The Graduate.
P.S. Do people here tend to just make wishlists or are these educated guesses based on murmurs? For instance, I haven’t heard anything about The Searchers being with Criterion, even though that was mentioned above.
