Poor Slattery. Can't even get an awkward column.

All of those pursed lips, sideways glances and looks over the tops of glasses does make the film look like it could be the beginning of one of the sternest employee appraisal meetings there has ever been!

"I'm afraid to inform you that Brenda in Accounts said that she saw you leaving the stationery cupboard with two boxes of pens before you left work last week. This is likely to go onto your permanent record."

I guess the cover can also work as a kid's puzzle where you need to draw a line from the actor's written name to his picture in the column and pictured sitting around the table...

Either the names dont match the pictures or thats a hell of a makeup job on the actors.

At least they organized the faces to match the names in a fashion.

Starts with at least 4 different fonts and an unnecessary border. I thought this was a mess, but =;

I like the color scheme.

At a local dvd shop recently, I saw a really horrific cover for something entitled Diet of Sex.
But it was the French edition and I couldn't find it on these here internets.

That Brooklyn cover is so horrendous I actually called out "oh my god" aloud. Too many fonts, too much text, that puke-green border... Jesus.

Also, Jim Broadbent looks like a Jim Broadbent balloon that someone is blowing up.

Hahaha holy shit. They kept the poster art in the sell sheets, guess they decided it wasn't too late to ruin it

To be fair, what they're going for is obvious: This guy Trumbo is the world's classiest pimp, running the world's, classiest brothel, with the high-classiest bitches who look like Diane Lane and Helen Mirren.

Imagine the horror of the prospective American buyer when they turn the box over and find out there is no lesbian or three-way scene with Helen and Diane, but instead, just a movie about some writer, who probably was a communist, and probably was buddies with Castro, who in turn gave Putin all our secrets.

I imagine that Wal-Mart parking lots all over the country will be scattered with the debris of countless burned, trampled and/or masturbated-on Blu-rays and DVDs of Trumbo.

Right?? The poster image (which they jimmied into that) was really effective on its own. But I guess they had to imply there is also running and people staring off at stuff (and I've noticed they've been sticking that RT logo directly on the artwork now, not just decals or stickers like I've seen previously).

That's the most egregious use of the RT logo I've ever seen, as if putting it on the corner wouldn't be enough. Baffling. Did remind me that despite it coming and going quickly, this film is on my streaming kevyip for 2015, I do want to give it a shot.

It gets worse: In the case of The Gift, that logo is a sticker on the slipcover, but when you remove the slipcover, you see it has been printed into the actual cover art (in the same position).

It's a very good thriller. Doesn't do too many final twists like a lot of modern ones.

Yeah, I picked this one up and was actually sort of stunned when I took the slip off. Other films just put a sticker on the slip or cellophane (which is fine, I guess) but seeing it actually on the art was a "WTF" moment.

I had a couple of issues with the film (don't want to spoil anything so won't get into that) but overall it's a pretty solid directorial debut for Edgerton. I was admittedly expecting some generic stalker-ish thriller but it aims much higher than that, taking on a rather timely topic, and mostly succeeds.

Here's an earlier version of that image as used on the poster...
