Admittedly, I don't think it's that great of a film, but it would sell well considering it's exceptional cast.

I think StudioCanal has Richard Lester's Three Musketeers.

I spoke too soon! You're correct. It looks as though StudioCanal and Lionsgate hold the distribution rights to the film.

When will Criterion do more Hitchcock?

For starters, how about a release of The Silent 9 and then the rest of 1930s films (out of the ten '30s films Criterion only released three). There should be no rights troubles with these, correct?

Basically, all would be right with the world if Criterion released every Hitchcock...

YOUNG AND INNOCENT has been rumored for a long time now -- I'd be glad to see it get the CC treatment.

Not sure about the Silent 9 -- some of them are available on iTunes, and it looks like LionsGate has the rights. I'd be surprised if they made it to BluRay any time soon.

On Amazon, they have THE LODGER, DOWNHILL, SABOTAGE, and YOUNG AND INNOCENT.

I'm hoping for a Hitchcock and Ivor Novello silent double feature. Can't wait to see the original infamous seasick green tinting on DOWNHILL.

Podcast interview with Jonathan Turell where he confirms they are working on The In-Laws and Here Comes Mr. Jordan and maybe confirms Shampoo, says they want to do The Princess Bride but haven't been able to figure out what they could add to the current release, and hints that they are working on expanding to other regions/markets.

Do we think they'd do a box/sequential spines of Mr. Jordan with the 1978 Heaven Can Wait?

It does appear that nearly everything is up for grabs now from the studios. Interesting that they have the opportunity to have access to old laserdisc titles again (Princess Bride), but I agree that there's probably not a whole lot they could add to the current package. Speaking of which, Princess Bride is one of those titles thats had a million repackagings by Fox (usually with just a sticker / piece of cardboard over the previous release). I count 10 re-releases of this film, just on Blu. Granted, they don't change anything about it each time (see Clockwork Orange as a counter example), but is there really someone out there who buys all of these things?

The other regions/markets sounds interesting. The obvious choice is the UK. Masters of Cinema used to essentially be Criterion's UK partner (often using almost all the same special features, etc) - but MoC seems to be stuck in Paramount licensed land. I'm sure if it were the Nick days, we'd probably have seen Les Blank or something else. It might sound odd, but I wonder if one of the regions/markets might be India? They've been doing a lot of promotion of their films out there at various schools + trying to build up archives & restorations out there. Not sure if they'd add other subtitles to the product (does India require Hindi or local languages to be an alternate language on film releases - like Canada?).

Yeah, this is certainly news to me (and while I haven't seen The In-Laws, I certainly feel as though there were far more deserving WB titles than this one!). This could also mean that the extent of WB's licensing potentially extends much further than the 15 or so titles that suddenly went OOP and were rumored to have been licensed to Criterion.

Speaking of which, what's the average for amount of titles Criterion licenses out from a studio at a given time? 30 or so?

I'm the person who interviewed Criterion CEO Jonathan Turell recently for the above-mentioned podcast.
I just learned about this site today when I checked our stats & saw so many visits originating from here.
Wish I'd known about this before I interviewed him to get your questions, although I'm likely to interview Criterion President Peter Becker soon.
I was scheduling Peter's interview this morning when Jonathan let me know that Peter's father (& Criterion co-founder) William Becker sadly died over the weekend - so it may be a bit before he's available.
I'll definitely return to solicit questions from you for my interview with him, as soon as it's scheduled.

Sorry if this has been discussed previously, but are Tales of Hoffmann, Forbidden Games and/or Le jour se leve still possibilities for Criterion?

All three are with Studio Canal and all three are out on Blu-ray in the UK, so no. But the blu-rays released elsewhere are great, so if you have a region-free player, you can enjoy them!

Yeah, Young & Innocent seems to be the likely next one and that would be fine. But I hope they'd speed up their Hitch releases.
