Yay, they're not stupid! Absolutely deserved for Sarah Polley.
This; it's one thing to poke and prod (given the audience, it's kind of necessary to keep it from being an elitist circlejerk), but it's a whole other can of worms when you're just being spiteful for no reason, as though Kimmel isn't the exact person he's insulting. Praying he's not hosting again next yearBrian C wrote: Mon Mar 13, 2023 2:41 am That "civil engineering" joke is a perfect example of why Kimmel sucks - it was completely obvious where he was going as soon as he started in on "the road system here in L.A.", but yet, it's just mean-spirited on its face. Sure, sure - it's a joke, but it's just phrased so inartfully that there's nothing there but the stupid insult.
Honestly, I was fully expecting her to win, considering this is the only other award the movie was nominated for outside Best Picture; just thankful All Quiet nor Top Gun didn't get itApperson wrote: Mon Mar 13, 2023 2:45 am Yay, they're not stupid! Absolutely deserved for Sarah Polley.
Yes. So happy the Actors Who Always Vote for Actors Who Do Something Other than Act voting block was big enough to overcome Netflix' All Quiet push.Computer Raheem wrote: Mon Mar 13, 2023 2:50 amHonestly, I was fully expecting her to win, considering this is the only other award the movie was nominated for outside Best Picture; just thankful All Quiet nor Top Gun didn't get itApperson wrote: Mon Mar 13, 2023 2:45 am Yay, they're not stupid! I love Sarah Polley, and I’m thrilled for her, but I can’t compliment the script. I can, however, appreciate that it won over All Quiet, and that this is really an ‘owed’ Oscar for snubbing her work in Go and Dawn of the DeadApperson wrote: Mon Mar 13, 2023 2:45 am Yay, they're not stupid! I'll compliment the script! I thought it was profoundly thoughtful and was one of the very rare "issues" films to treat its subject with genuine moral seriousness, instead of superficial outrage and finger-pointing. I'm happy she won, and I hope the film wins Best Pic, too.therewillbeblus wrote: Mon Mar 13, 2023 2:52 amI love Sarah Polley, and I’m thrilled for her, but I can’t compliment the script. I didn’t like it very much but I’d take a BP win over half the nominees. Either way, her W is one of the highlights of the night. I’ve loved her ever since I saw Go around the time of its release/over two-thirds of my life. One of my favorite people in the industryBrian C wrote: Mon Mar 13, 2023 2:59 amI'll compliment the script! I like how we all have things we for which we want to reward Polley. Stories We Tell is a real piece of work. But also this is the year the Academy awarded the kids from Temple of Doom and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.therewillbeblus wrote: Mon Mar 13, 2023 2:52 am I love Sarah Polley, and I’m thrilled for her, but I can’t compliment the script.
