Those three Teuvo Tulio boxed sets from Finland are still on the expensive side ($80 per, DVD-only), so I hope other willing labels gain some interest in those titles, though I suppose they might not be as loony (or outright saleable!) as those later pictures.

Some updates from the recent Newsletter:
Volume 1 of the Masters of Soviet Animation will contain The Secret of the Third Planet, The Plan, and The Return.
Another volume will have The Snow Queen alongside Lev Atamanov’s The Scarlet Flower and The Key.
Other sets to be released will include titles from the Brumberg Sisters, Ivan Ivanov-Vano, and Roman Davydov.
And it appears that the double feature of Mama/Rock ‘n Roll Wolf and Kingdom in the Clouds has been either delayed or cancelled outright as the result of a rights issues.

Several Blu-ray.com reviews for DC releases talk about "Deaf Crocodile releases include an inserted QR code card. The QR code card provides a link to additional transcribed bonus content for each release. Once you follow the QR code with your smartphone or smart device, the device will provide you with a link to more transcribed bonus content." But I don't understand what they mean by "additional transcribed bonus content".

I'm fairly certain that these link you to transcriptions for bonus material in cases where closed captions weren't available on disc. For the actually Deaf Crocodiles out there.

It's a very elegant solution to the problem that subtitling is one of the most expensive parts of the production process.

I think I've more or less made my way through DC's backlog, and don't have much positive to report - however, while I didn't like the film, Time of Roses is a visually stunning piece of work that doles out complexities in a smooth fashion. I never really gelled with its ideas beyond the superficial narrative, but I can imagine someone else getting a lot out of this one. It's worth watching for the revelation of Ritva Vepsä's star power alone - I often felt that I was in a newly-restored nouvelle vague curio whenever we spent ample time meditating on the ingénue's little quirks

I can confirm for The Wild Hunt of King Stach and Adele Has Not Had Supper Yet that the links provide pdf files with scripts and transriptions for the hearing impared of the English language bonus material.

Freckled Max and the Spooks and I Married a Strange Person are the March releases, with the former being part of the subscription.

It looks like the Plympton release is up for pre-order about a half-hour ahead of schedule via the Deaf Crocodile site. Among other extras, they're including the following shorts:

“Guide Dog” (2006, 6 min.), newly scanned & restored for this release
“The Loneliest Stoplight” (2015, 6 min.), narrated by Patton Oswalt

Guessing the chances of this are remote, but they could be legends if they chucked András Jeles's The Annunciation (based on the same source material) on as a bonus feature!

I actually wouldn’t doubt that they’d release it considering they’ve worked with the studio behind it for Heroic Times, although like you said, the chances of it being paired with Tragedy of Man isn’t the greatest.

Deaf Crocodile have confirmed more details of their Treasures of Soviet Animation project, which is now up to six volumes.

Volume One
Roman Kachanov’s classic, THE MYSTERY OF THE THIRD PLANET as well as two incredible Sci-fi shorts by Vladmir Tarasov.

Volume Two
Lev Atamanov’s THE SNOW QUEEN plus two more Atamanov short features.

Volume Three
Two films by Valentina and Zinaida Brumberg - The Brumberg Sisters and more.

Volume Four
Three films by Ivan Ivanov-Vano including 1947’s THE HUMPBACKED HORSE.

Volume Five

I have an exquisite Japanese Blu-ray of the Norstein films, and couldn't be happier to see them get wider circulation, especially if those extras finally end up with English subtitles.

I'm over the moon by this announcement. Brings back memories of the ancient Masters of Russian Animation volumes. Don't think anything Criterion potentially announce today could top this.

That is a crazy good set of films and directors. These are some great films. I hope my favorite, Shooting Range, gets onto one of these.

This is good news. Wonder if they'll do a box with all titles together. I only managed to pick up one of the Russian Animation dvds before they went OOP and started going for crazy prices & have regretted not picking up the others. Any Eastern European animation is welcome, particularly if it is on par with the quality of their content (or a remastering of the titles themselves).

The big problem with the Norstein films on DVD is that they had burned-in subtitles, which was aesthetically disastrous in the case of The Fox and the Hare in particular because so much action takes place in the bottom quarter of the frame. When a Japanese Blu-ray came out a few years ago, I imported it without any hesitation, not least because it was the first release that I was aware of that solved that problem in that the subs could at least be switched off.

Can’t speak for Norstein’s other works but Hedgehog in the Fog is genuinely one of my favorite animated shorts of all time with such a visceral, haunting, and yet almost calming atmosphere that dwarves our adorable hedgehog lead that turns into something deeply beautiful and meditative by the end of it’s runtime. Like if Tarkovsky made an animated film.

Norstein really sounds interesting. Fingers crossed all those volumes come to pass. DC did say in the newsletter that it's not totally a done deal.

Couldn't stop watching this when we hit this year in the '70s project. More than gorgeous, it felt like perfect vehicle for his technique. All those layers of glass. A moment of mystery injected into the certainty of routine. You can't be certain where you are or what you're seeing. How experiences keep us apart from other people even when we're together.

Excited for the upgrade and the other works in this series.

The other 2 films in the Teuvo Tulio set have been revealed to be Restless Blood and Cross of Love respectively.

Deaf Crocodile mentioned that they're working on a boxed set of the complete works of a young filmmaker, could it be Norbert Pfaffenbichler, whom we know they are releasing a collection of films from?
