Mike Mills?! Why that’s not a Eclipse Set? Tanaka, Lubitsch and Kiarostami are better suited for Eclipse and Mills got a special box set? Makes absolutely no sense.
They are marketing to the demo that still buys physical media.

Hud is good but also way too cluttered.

Hud is a really interesting idea (clearly this film wasn’t bound by rules about the size of actors on the artwork) but I’m not sure it works (and Douglas looks kinda blurry?)

The Crying Game cover is just not appropriate to the film at all. If I hadn't seen the film already I would assume it was a film about racism from the 1960s set in, like, an Alabama stockyard or something, from this cover. AliceDLHA is a decent straightforward effort, the Oshima is maybe a nice little try, and the others are whateverblearggggh.

I believe Mills began his career making cover art/inside artwork for albums, so it makes sense
Oh, I didn’t know that - thanks for the info.

Ewan MacGregor in Beginners is basically just Mills

Seriously, I don't get what the Crying Game cover is supposed to be. What are those lines above Stephen Rea's head? A suitcase?

It is hideous and unrepresentative of the film, which is already genre-bending enough that it doesn't also need to be represented as some kind of weird Max Ophuls movie. Still happy it's here, but hopefully BFI makes something less yucky.

Are you suggesting Criterion is attempting to make money with their releases?

Haha and what is that shit behind Jaye Davidson...seaweed? Calligraphy? An overly detailed curtain? Ack! I'm thinking that instead of dusty and stockyard-ish, the beige stuff is supposed to be golden...? It's so
utterly conceptually confused and is also really mediocre design on its own or any other terms.

Okay I'll stop, but I must add that the rendering of Rea here look to me more like a poor man's Nino Castelnuovo than Rea

Crying Game is… alright (I can at least pick up on the background being Dil’s flat with the gauzy curtain and all) but definitely could have been better. Bless this artist’s little heart but they aren’t that good.
It could be worse. I used to have a DVD with slip sleeve that had
this image but all the white areas were covered with imitation disco ball holofoil. Swear to god. Wish I still had it just to snap a pic.

The [Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore] cover is another Skillman masterclass, it’s like an iconic Kodachrome photograph.

A BR poster found out that the cover is a set photo and had Scorsese and a crew member in it:

The Little Odessa font is awful. I do like Sean Philips' cover for Coup de Torchon a lot.

Despite my disappointment in the lineup for the month, Coup de Torchon has a great cover
