Boo. I saw the last show she and Steve played at the Stardust before it was demolished a few years ago. Both were still in fantastic voice.

A lovely and gracious man, he played a small part in the first short I directed in 2004, didn't know who I was but he came in as a favor to my lead actor. Nevertheless, he was kind and understanding to a young first timer and did a beautiful job. I wish I'd gotten more time with him

It's a shame this rehab facility wasn't paying closer medical attention to her.

4 in one day, that must be a record.

Well, there are 1.73 deaths per second, or thereabouts. We're only hearing about 0.000026% of deaths from today in this thread. Approximately!

Well, De Vargas died in June, actually. But yes, this is a dismal day for obituaries.

Really sorry to see this. That's a solid writeup in the link. Hard to imagine them being as creative a band without his various inputs.

I think I'm going to go listen to Astronomy.

The Famous Jett Jackson! Damn, and he was one of the few child actors who found work as an adult too

I was never quite sold on the Elmore Leonard cult until Justified, but for that alone he deserves demigod status. RIP indeed

I'm shocked he was only 87. He seemed to be one of those guys who had lived (and could have kept on living) forever. From 3:10 to Yuma to Justified... that's one hell of a stretch!

Been watching several of the early westerns he wrote recently. The interview on Criterion's 3:10 is one of my fave extras from their recent releases. RIP.

I'll never forget attending an Iggy Pop performance at St. Andrew's Hall in Detroit in October, 1986 and, glancing over to the opposite side of the balcony, seeing Leonard dressed in a tuxedo with hand-on-chin watching Pop intently (he was apparently doing research for one of his books).

He was definitely a legend around Metro Detroit and had quite the career. RIP.

A good writer who seemed like a pretty nice guy. For me, his influence on film and TV is more important than this books. Quentin Tarantino's work wouldn't be anything like what it is today without his passionate enthusiasm for Leonard, who Tarantino's always cited as the biggest influence on his writing. And my favorite adaptations are a few of the less heralded ones, including Tarantino's Jackie Brown, which Leonard himself at the time praised as among the very best if not the outright finest adaptation and Martin Ritt's Hombre, which Leonard disliked mostly for the casting of Paul Newman, if I recall.
