Another all-time speech; genuinely happy Fraser won

When Blanchett loses in five seconds, I’ll give you your credit. :p
EDIT: Yeoh was great, but Blanchett was maybe the best performance I’ve ever seen in a lead role. Not upset at this like I would be if one of the others won, though.

What a huge sweep for EEAAO

Getting Halle Berry to present was giving me major Chadwick Boseman flashbacks, but thankfully it worked out this time!

Berry has truly had one of the ultimate Oscars Curse career trajectories

I'm good with Yeoh winning, too. I don't know but I kinda doubt that role had much of a human center on paper, but she found it.

5 of the Best Picture nominees are going home empty-handed. Does anyone know if that’s a record?

Thrilled for Michelle Yeoh.

For all the complaints about bits and schtick, this was a brisk Oscars and they kept things moving. Only running a half hour over.

Maybe it’s time to reconsider that “there must be ten” stretch

This is fine. Everything wasn't my favorite of the bunch, but at least it actually did something novel and imaginative. That's more that I can say about a lot of BP winners.

Strangely, I think at least 2 and possibly as many as 4 of the ones going home empty-handed would have been nominated even if there were only 5 nominees (Fabelmans and Banshees for sure, possibly Tar and Elvis).

I would never go so far as to say that Yeoh was “better” than Blanchett, because they were two wildly different performances. But, just like EEaaO sweeping, it’s cool to see a leading actor win based on a multifaceted perf combining comedy, action choreography, drama, and lots of subtleties. Nothing about Blanchett’s perf was subtle, which is fine, but it’s a cool change-up from the norm

True, I was excepting an overlong trainwreck, but this is what happens when you hire people who work in live TV for a living

So All Quiet somehow got the exact same Oscars as Crouching Tiger got 22 years ago, don't know what that says exactly but it's interesting at least.

Now that EEAAO has won Best Picture, how long until Twitter and Letterboxd gaslight us into thinking it's the worst film ever made? I'm giving it a month

Called it eight months ago. So glad he won over Butler.
I didn’t want to jinx Fraser’s chances by saying it out loud before the ceremony, but the late breaking Butler momentum felt extremely manufactured to me. A lot of pundits using “Oscars Math”* that didn’t account for the fact that Fraser essentially boycotted the Golden Globes.
*Not a slight on precursors at all (in aggregate they called most awards correctly), but there’s still a bit of art needed to completely understand the science.

Can I stake out the territory that the film just didn't sustain my interest? I liked all the actors better than the film itself, and I'm very glad to see them winning their awards. I thought the film was exhausting, but I'd hardly call it one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

SAG went 4/4 this year; BAFTAS 0/4. Someone remind me of this next year, please.

Oh, you're good; I wasn't referring to those who simply didn't like it, I'm talking about those who were praising it before that might now suddenly claim it to have always been bad (basically, "I Hate Thing Now Because Thing Is Now Popular")

This has been a thing since time immemorial, and it is not unique to Film Twitter
