Kind of like dinner guests entering the house a second time?

Looks like Antoine Doinel has a different interpretation.

My defense: "Discreet": reference to Discreet Charm.
sleeping bag/clothes: they come for dinner, stay forever.
#-o I should've realized this the first time I saw it.

It's amazing how awful a boxset that would be despite containing such great films. "Criterion is proud to present Three Films About Dinner". #-o

Not that it would even happen (legal snafus over films from multiple distributors being lumped into one box and all).

Permission to get my hopes up on the possibility that Exterminating Angel will only be part of the fabled Mexican Bunuel box?

Ugh, I hope not. I'd rather it be it's own release.

When are we going to be getting themed Eclipse sets anyway?

It seems as though everyone has forgotten the film The Exterminating Angel - the two animals (the bear and the sheep) are featured creatures towards the end of the film. The discreet reference and many change of clothes are clearly hints at Bunuel and the fact that they never leave the room for many days.

It doesn't seem to be hinting at anything beyond Exterminating Angel. It is FOR SURE The Exterminating Angel.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the two animals have already been brought to light as a pretty key reason for this release to be Exterminating Angel. The certainty of it being Exterminating Angel is not under dispute, but, as loose as the reference may be, "And many, many changes of clothing" does hold some weight to (what is already on the cards) The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover wherein, clothing changes in the blink of an eye depending on which room a character enters (If I remember correctly, Michael Gambon has a deep red shirt in the restaraurant but as he enters the kitchen it becomes lime green). My memory is a little hazy on the colour details, but taking into account that The Cook, The Thief... is expected (early) next year, it seems reasonable enough to take it as a possibility for a hint that does releate.

I'd go with BigP, except the inclusion of the word "discreet" alludes directly to Buñuel.

For those who are having trouble following along or who haven't bothered to read the last couple of pages in this thread, the growing consensus is that the clue is referring to both films, providing us with an UNPRECEDENTED DOUBLE CLUE IN THE CRITERION E-MAIL NEWSLETTER.

Jesus, I can't believe how sad this place is sometimes.

Hinting at more than one title isn't unprecedented. There was this gem from May of '06:

A paraphrased Duckman quote would seem appropriate:

"You're certainly putting a lot of faith in these...what do you call them? Glues?"

"Clues"

"I'm one letter off, crucify me!"

Well. I'll bet Tamara or whoever came up with the diabolical two-fer clue is enjoying her Monday morning laugh right now.

Seriously ... I'll take anything at this point. The 8mm Home Movies of Saul Turell. Tamara Hellgren: The MySpace Video Diaries. Anything.

I'm ready to pee myself at the Exterminating Angel "news."

If Tristana was also announced, I probably would act on my readiness.
