Teaser trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. I had some small hope we might get a fun, candy-colored, Jack Kirby-styled romp à la Thor: Ragnarok, but it looks like the same gray, grimy, joyless stuff Marvel's been churning out (with a couple of exceptions) since Endgame. I swear they've used that same running-through-a-ruined-street shot in every single Marvel movie like it's the Wilhelm scream.

I’m actually getting a pretty fun Jetsons vibe out of it, though it does strike me as very Incredibles in tone, which makes me chuckle as we come full circle: original comic inspires animated film forty years later: animated film inspires film based on original comic twenty years later.

I was going to say the same thing! This feels more like a The Incredibles homage than an adaptation of the original comics run, right down to the Giacchino score. I'm guessing the effects for Reed Richards' stretching and The Silver Surfer aren't done since there's no sign of them in the teaser.

I think the first FF adaptation I watch may be the meta-multiverse one where they gather all the casts together for each to wonder at where they went wrong.

There's a horrible reason why they kept Silver Surfer out of the trailer and it's because in this universe, she's a female version of the character. Disney/Marvel want to show the least amount possible of her to not get review bombed the MAGA chud crowd and to not get their negative aura before release date. The only positive of this if they don't reveal Surfer until the movie is released is that they would actually surprise a lot of people at the theaters.

Speaking of Marvel films, went to see Captain America Brave New World and it was a fun popcorn flick. It was pretty clear that they had to re-tool Sabra halfway through, and change her origin, but honestly, there's no reason for the actress or the character to have been in this movie at all. I mean, in a world of superheroes, where one of the main issues in the film is about Sam Wilson, a buff, military and Avenger trained powerless hero coming to terms that he doesn't need the Super Serum, we have a barely 4'8" 80lbs powerless human fighting like she's Jason Bourne/Jack Reacher. Don't know why her character was even in to begin with, with some many other interesting female characters existing in the Marvel Universe that could serve the role better.

Silver lining for an underperforming movie....

Awkwardly, I just found out I know someone who directed a Marvel movie. I met them through a mutual acquaintance over 15 years ago at a work-related gathering that had nothing to do with commercial filmmaking, and I didn't know they were headed in that direction until we connected on social media. I can't comment on their work as I've never seen anything they've done - and they've long since deleted their account - but it was a little weird staring at a poster then noticing a familiar name in the credits.

The cast for Avengers: Doomsday has been announced and there are some surprises.

I'm guessing the rest of the Marvel Universe will either have cameos on this first film or return in Avengers Secret Wars. I'm guessing Fantastic Four in June stars everything that's going to happen with the MCU over the next 3 years.

I've heard the unannounced film is Spider-Man 4, where Peter Parker will bond with the symbiote left by Venom in the after credit scene from 3, and it'll introduce Gwen and Miles to the MCU then jump right into Secret Wars with the black symbiote costume on.

I don't have anything against the Multiverse saga and don't think it's as bad as fandom has made it seem. Most of the Multiverse complaint has been that the movies aren't as good as Endgame (well, they all can't be like that when you are building an universe), that the movies have gone "woke" (oh how I hate racists using this as a pejorative) and that no one cares about these characters because they aren't popular (well, no one care about any of the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Dr. Strange and Wong before the MCU). I feel that Feige and this three phases have had some back luck (Pandemic, death of Chadwick Boseman, Jonathan Major's derailing everything with Kang), over expectations from fanbase (everything has to be like Endgame, if not is not worth it), political bullshit (Trump/DeSantis MAGA fight vs Disney), media turning on them ("has superhero fatigue hit the big screen?") and the Fox merger bringing the FF and the X-Men into the MCU sandbox.

I can honestly say that out the new films, Thor Love and Thunder and Ant-Man Quantumania were bad (L&T especially mishandled the beautiful tragic story of Jane Foster getting cancer), Eternals, Black Panther 2, The Marvels, Captain America 4 and Black Widow were just ok (Eternals had so much potential if they had fully embraced Jack Kirby's colors and weirdness of the concept), and GOTG 3, Spider-Man 3, Dr. Strange 2, Shang-Chi and Deadpool and Wolverine were really good. If you look back at the first three phases, you'll see that there were some great ones but there were some mediocre to bad ones like Avengers 2, Iron Man 2, and Thor 3.

The Sony Spider-villain world has been horrible but the MCU still has some legs and with FF and X-Men in their future, I feel it's going to be exciting, but mark my words, the same assholes who are loud about wokeness and Disney, will come and shit on the films no matter what. It's like they are in a cult or something

As rumored, the yet unannounced film is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, arriving in theaters on July 31, 2026. Other than having Tom Holland and Zendaya return, the film is introducing a new character played by Sadie Sink. Rumors is that the character may be the red headed Mary Jane Watson from the MCU or an alternate universe, or Mayday Parker, the daughter of Peter and MJ who becomes Spider-Girl, or Firestar, the popular mutant introduced in the 80's in the Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends cartoon alongside Iceman.

Also, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spiderverse is schedule for theaters on June 4th, 2027

Birds of Prey had it's title sort of reworked while it was still in theaters. Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) was it's original title. It was also not exactly a box office sensation in the way it's studio wanted either.

Apparently the "new title" is in the end credits anyway, so I don't think this is any more drastic or noteworthy than the recent The Irishman/I Heard You Paint Houses issue, except as a piece of craven marketing. Surely it would be a colossal legal/guild issue to actually change the formal title of the thing.

It is a piece of marketing conceived as such, since the * at the end of the (original ?) title reflects the narrative within the movie.
