I recall reading somewhere on this forum that the announcements need to be synchronized with retailers' planning cycles. Thus if the time slot to announce the Eclipse November releases is missed, it will automatically slide into the December cycle.

That is typically the way it works. It is important to note though, that just because the company hasn't announced it to consumers doesn't mean it hasn't announced it to buyers. Image doesn't have a listing for an Eclipse title yet, but it also doesn't have a listing for Drunken Angel which HAS been announced to consumers. Right now, it really could go either way.

Drunken Angel is there, they just haven't gotten around to listing it yet since
the page is incomplete.

If November was a down month, I really couldn't complain. The Criterion line-up is so strong (and expensive) that month, I doubt I could afford anything else.

I know how you feel, and Nov. is certainly the one month where one big purchase takes precedence (for me, anyway) over any other dvd purchases. However, after the stellar Raymond Bernard set, I'm all about picking up an Eclipse set if it's something I'm interested in. If a) there is a Nov. Eclipse set, and b) it's something I want, I'd get it along with
Berlin Alexanderplatz.
Speaking of which, since
BA is a television miniseries, maybe that month's Eclipse set could be a set of television shows by famous directors (Rossellini's
Louis XIV, for example).

I'll confess that I've often fantasized about Criterion releasing a 'Fellini on TV' boxset, featuring I Clowns, Orchestra Rehearsal, Ginger and Fred and Intervista, all films in need of upgraded DVD presentations.

I'd settle for THE CLOWNS. INTERVISTA and GINGER AND FRED are out in acceptable editions. ORCHESTRA REHEARSAL could probably use an upgrade, however.

That would be awesome, but Ginger and Fred is Warner, and their DVD is good.

The Warner image is sharp, but the aspect ratio is incorrect. Like I said, it
IS a fantasy. Irregardless, I own both the region 1 & 2 editions of
Ginger and Fred. Very underrated film.
The Koch Lorber DVD of
Intervista suffers pretty badly from ghosting and combing. The colors are strong and the image is sharp, so it's certainly watchable, but an upgrade would certainly be welcomed by me.

Am I lost again, or is it not going to be a November Eclipse release?

No, they have released sets in consecutive months. They do not seem to have a set release pattern. They indicated that there will be some months without an Eclipse release. Since the start of the line in March, the only months without a release are May, September, and November.

The ONLY complaint I have with Eclipse so far is the erratic release schedule.
I probably wouldn't be so annoyed by this, if I didn't love the Eclipse sets so much!

.com tells about a japanese set. I think it was Naruse, Imamura or early Kurosawa...

Yes, there will be a Kurosawa box. There have been rumors of this for a while, and I swore I posted the response from Tamara here on the forum. It was in my blog nonetheless.

If this is true, I find it completely unnecessary. There is already enough Kurosawa on DVD at this point. I was almost certain it was going to be Shohei Imamura or Oshima tho.

I doubt the Imamura is coming for at least another 4-5 months at minimum, what with the retro still traveling.

I say we just put a moratorium on Japanese films in general. We get it, swords, suicide, cuddly women, we get it.
