What will also be interesting is if Toho allows Criterion to release the absolutely fascinating bastardized American version of Return called Godzilla 1985 which Roger Corman (And Dr. Pepper!) morphed into something entirely unique.
Almost no chance. Toho really wants to bury the US dubs/re-edits.

Has there been any evidence that CC has
The Seventh Victim or is it just speculation as folks continue to guess this title?
I'd like to know as well, and have to wonder why it hasn't been released on BD by
anyone as of yet. It smells like a... conspiracy, to be honest. Lewton's best film by far. Would make a great paired/same month release with
Eyes Wide Shut.

To be fair, seemingly everyone has been predicting this title every month for the past ten years.

that's true. this is one of the longest requested upgrades, and it's been quite some time since we got it's paired spine upgraded. let's hope features are being added to the disc
been checking a lot of big ticket titles to look for UHD indications and have nothing

Interesting that they didn't announce any UHD titles this round.

Not really all that surprising considering they are releasing 7 UHDs within 3 months.

It strikes me that Criterion has known active deals with everyone except No Country for Old Men that the Coens have worked with - and we know the Man Who Wasn’t There is in the queue, and there’s some indication Fargo may be too… kind of starting to think there could be a big box coming for them…
Millers and Wind seem like titles that should have been 4K candidates but as the restorations were in 2K I guess there’d be no point.

I didn't think I was on the 4k bandwagon but I got excited when I saw Miller's crossing, but then when I saw the criterion was bluray only immediately felt guilty I've owned the Millers crossing bluray for years and never watched it--so apparently I am on the bandwagon because the 4k prospect made me more excited. doh!

They probably want to see how they sell before upping the UHD production

Four titles seems like a light slate for a February. Am I wrong in thinking this? I imagine that they they had 1 or 2 titles (UHD possible) that they pushed back.

Or maybe they're spreading themselves thin with the inclusion of UHD, so we'll see a median of less new titles on avg per month, more modern releases coming from streaming services to keep up those deals, and UHD upgrades

I'd say I'm less 'against' UHD than cynical about what appears to be too many business priorities distracting from the ethos of bringing more unknown and unavailable 'films in need' into the limelight, but this month isn't supporting that fear, so whatever

3 absolutely great and necessary releases and only one that seems a bit pointless, imho (Miller's Crossing from the old transfer) = a good month. The extras seem generally short on critical analysis, for my taste, but that's secondary.

Vulture just published an interview with Mike Leigh where he says that Criterion will be releasing the new restorations of
Bleak Moments and
Naked.
