Thanks for this!

The best W.C. Fields titles are down to $9.99, and some huge bargains too:

Petzold's Barbara down to $5.99
The Benoit Jacquot Collection from the Cohen Collection down to $14.99
Some '80s Godard for $8.99
The Maya Deren set for $9.99 (a poorly done set, but list price was $35 so a bargain nonetheless)
And the Touch of Evil UHD set is far more affordably priced too.

BTW, I'm surprised that they have phone support late on a Sunday night...surprisingly nice and courteous as well.

Dude, there're no good movies in this set, you'd be better off getting Cohen's release of Les Adieux à la reine instead

The Touch of Evil set has always tempted me, but I just can’t get past the inability to switch aspect ratios. The Masters of Cinema box is incredible

The Jewish Soul: Classics of Yiddish Cinema is also a steal at 70% off. I’ve never seen any of these films and am certainly tempted by the price. Can anyone put in a good word for it?

From what I can remember, A Single Girl was excellent, with the hour-long section running in real-time being especially good. I haven't seen the other two, but I've had others recommend The Disenchanted on separate occasions.

As for Touch of Evil, I eventually decided that I was good with the 1.85:1 aspect ratio, both on aesthetic grounds and the convincing amount of evidence in support of it as the intended version. Up until last year I had the Universal BD (after selling the MoC which surprisingly had a weaker encode). I've only bothered with the "restored" edition after having enough of the other two, so the UHD is likely all I need and then some. I've seen the other two versions many times though - for academic reasons, it was helpful to become familiar with all three, but for my own enjoyment, I'm not really a fan of skipping around different versions of a film.

Several films are great in the set. I’m particularly a fan of the Ulmer’s, but The Dybbuk alone is worth the msrp.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Criterion re-release “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka”.

Washington Square would be nice, and they have a relationship with Agnieszka Holland

Yes, I’m sure Criterion is dying to release these movies that KLSC couldn’t sell even at 85% off what a Criterion edition would cost

Oh, I know it won’t happen. Just wishful thinking. You’ll be able to pick up any of these at bargain prices on eBay indefinitely

Another plug for Green Card, which is just phenomenal

Grateful that, of that Disney/Touchstone/Hollywood/BV package going OOP, Kino bothered with Mumford. Like its protagonist, it's not as charming or harmless as it thinks it is, but Kasdan's surprisingly successful using gentleness to smooth together odd tonal turns. Mostly solid low-key ensemble. Features my favorite shade of Hope Davis, the unshowy, weary intelligence a la Next Stop Wonderland.

KL Insider flipped out on our own Domino Harvey at the other forum over this post so I guess we know they’re still watching this thread!

I don't even understand his post, as my comment wasn't an attack on KLSC-- is his argument that he wants Criterion to release the same movies they did and charge more for them? Believe it or not, I'm probably the biggest defender of KLSC on this forum, but I guess their label representatives have the same level of quality control as their releases

And it sounds like he's admitting that his product is inferior as to what Criterion would produce. :-k

I think the funniest part of that post is that there is someone who genuinely believes that domino is an employee who works for Criterion and has turned it into a "why Criterion is overrated" thread.

EDIT: Dom, can you please give me a free copy of the Three Colors 4K set since you're an employee? I would also like a full list of 2023 releases.

I think he took offense at the suggestion that titles that go to their WSL sale are always poor sellers, which Criterion would never touch since they leave such trash to Kino, when that's not always the case, such as with Sucka.

Stating such a thing more informatively without the emotional phrasing would have been fine, but we've all come to expect that to not be the case with KL Insider.
