And they got rid of the only thing I used the site for: seeing what upcoming films associated with a given actor/director/etc. are playing in the next month, which used to be listed on the page for any given individual.

That seems like a pretty great feature, and a puzzling move to exclude it after already having whatever system it took to generate the films in place..

I recently noticed this feature was missing because I saw that TCM had recently uploaded a trailer for My Dear Miss Aldrich and I wanted to see if it was airing soon for those without access to back channels. It used to be that you could see if a movie was playing further in the future by looking it up in the database, but looks like that info isn't shown on the new website. (The search function is also completely broken on my browser, so the only way I was even able to find My Dear Miss Aldrich was by going to this month's schedule, selecting Blossoms in the Dust, clicking through to the database entry for Walter Pidgeon, and then finding it in his filmography.)

You can catch a mini-version of this on WatchTCM with a dozen or so Hitch flicks running for a couple of weeks. Looks like free Peacocktv has put his main features on ice.

I was killing time in a motel room the other day and The 7th Voyage of Sinbad was on TCM. However, it was being screened in 2.35:1, looking horizontally stretched. The film itself is 1.66:1. I wasn’t aware a 2.35:1 was making the round. Is this usual for TCM?

Last week I turned on TCM and they were showing a 1.33:1 film stretched to 1.85:1, which really surprised me. I actually checked the TV settings to make sure the issue wasn't on my end because I've never known TCM to make this error before. Sure enough, it was on their end, so coupled with The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad this seems to be a mistake they're occasionally making now.

I saw TCM’s 7th Voyage the other night. Not stretched.
I didn’t see the other film in question, but I check in briefly every night and haven’t found any such anomalies in years.

I remember this happening once to me, and it turned out that it was my local cable provider, some glitch somewhere had resulted in the stretching. I’ve definitely seen this happen from time to time on TCM. It’s on their end, as none of my other channels are affected, and the promos that play before and after the movie look fine.
On a slightly related note, for several years now they have been airing a print of The Thing from Another World that is cropped for widescreen TVs. It’s not just zoomed in, but each shot has been carefully re-framed so that the tops of heads are not cut off. Very odd.

No. The film doesn't earn that attempt at a coda. Far too much emphasis on the traditional patriarchal response to her work and not nearly enough on her psychology or, specifically, the ways in which she changed the direction of filmmaking and/or, certainly, film criticism. No John Simon touchstones. No foreshadowing of critics like Hoberman (who was the most hip inheritor, imo). Tarantino hinted at the places she took readers but that should have been the starting point. Thanks anyway, Frau.

Please say more about this! Ive always been fascinated by people trying to assess her influence, positive or negative, even in my very limited experience of that discussion. I sort of get the feeling that this is something many commentators are not good at. Lightweight or no, she is hard to pin down. Her psychology lol!!! What do you mean by that (question mark, i cant afford question marks). Also, is there lots of archival footage in the documentary and is her daughter interviewed. I don't think this has aired on North American television since the Independent Film Channel (remember that?) aired it along with
other rarities like Play it as it Lays and Taking Off. An astounding work; Geraldine Chaplin's performance is
unbelievably unsettling, but it's a movie without need for cheap tricks like jump scares. Great early turn from Alfre Woodard as
well, who plays a similar no-nonsense character in Robert Altman's H*E*A*L*T*H.
