I mostly loved working for the BFI (and spent nine years there), but I absolutely don't miss the internal politics. I've heard that too. She presented that short film they did in B&W on the 25th anniversary special and I remember he being quite overcome with emotion just in the intro.

She was indeed the best part of Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. My mom and I have quoted her Alamo tour many times since my childhood.

Very underrated, probably because she did her best work on SNL, where she was one of the best performers they ever had, all the more impressive considering SNL was so tough on women before the late '90s. Like Phil Hartman, just excellent in almost everything in any capacity, as a lead or supporting player. The barflies, the waitresses, the competitive beauty contestant, Diane Sawyer, the wicked Bette Davis impression….it's funny seeing the "video will" sketch now because it drops references to classic Hollywood stars and directors left and right, but I had no idea who Bette Davis was, much less who they were (Howard Hawks? Preston Sturges?) when I first saw it. It made it even more surreal, but I love that sketch, from the now-dated VHS jokes to the cackling, vengeful farewell.

Absolutely.

I've liked her since she was on Bill Tush's sketch show on TBS in the early '80's. She had a televangelist character of her own creation who I kept expecting her to break out when she joined the SNL cast. Of course, by '86, there were so many actual examples of that type (her fall on the floor hilarious version of T.F. Bakker, for example) that it sort of covered the need. She was fantastic with Phil and I always loved her with Nora Dunn, especially as the wonderful Sweeny Sisters, who made up what they lacked in talent with their enthusiasm.

What of my favorite moments is when they serenade/torture Paul Simon, with Hooks wailing at the top of her lungs, "Like a bridge….over trou, ou, bled, wa, ters…."

Very sad to hear. She was great as Jezzie,the alluring girlfriend-turned-devil woman in the bluntly allegorical Jacob's Ladder. There are issues with that film, in that being shown entirely from the point of view of Tim Robbins' character that turns the female characters into reductive angelic mother (the ex-wife Sarah and dead son Gabie, or Gabriel) versus sexy single (Jezzie being short for Jezebel), which results in Pena's character sadly being abandoned by the film, but that isn't really anything that should reflect on the fine performances on display.
