My guess from Bressonaire's guesses (cough, cough) are The Small Back Room and Body Heat
Eight Deadly Shots is with Janus, as announced at the NYFF screening of the restoration.brundlefly wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 3:55 pm I like that the five-hour Finnish TV miniseries is not the long shot. (Complimentary.)
I'd be fairly stunned if Criterion matched the Radiance Rozier set, considering how they've managed their Eustache catalog. I expect that if there is a physical collection that it will be Eclipse, albeit possibly with more titles included than the Radiance set as e.g. the Josephine en tournee series is on the Criterion Channel and not in the setFinch wrote:Someone on the previous page predicted Rozier on ECLIPSE. That'd be fucking hilarious after the Radiance set.
Didn't realize that. That could very well be itNever Cursed wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 4:01 pmEight Deadly Shots is with Janus, as announced at the NYFF screening of the restoration.brundlefly wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 3:55 pm I like that the five-hour Finnish TV miniseries is not the long shot. Sure, and they've had it streaming on the Channel, but there's a wide gap between something being with Janus and getting a physical release. Especially when it would demand a multi-disc set.Never Cursed wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 4:01 pmEight Deadly Shots is with Janus, as announced at the NYFF screening of the restoration.brundlefly wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 3:55 pm I like that the five-hour Finnish TV miniseries is not the long shot. Perhaps. They are sneaky. They planted a sale for the channel on the front page knowing the high traffic and knowing they likely weren't announcing todayomegadirective wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 6:07 pm I wonder if Criterion can track how many times their "Coming Soon" page gets refreshed on the 15th of each month?
Hahaha I was thinking the exact same thingFrauBlucher wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 11:13 pmPerhaps. They are sneaky. From what I’ve heard Criterion have gone bust after Lav Diaz’s recent visit to the Criterion Closet
They earned it all back after Jafar Panahi's visit.Peacock wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 11:47 pm From what I’ve heard Criterion have gone bust after Lav Diaz’s recent visit to the Criterion Closet
Side complaint, but what’s with directors casually spoiling the end of Bicycle Thieves lately? In that Scorsese series, he does the same in the very first episode, and they even show a clip of the ending as he’s spoiling it. “Hey, you. I’d like to recommend you this important film that I think everyone should see, and by the way, this is how it ends!” If ever there’s been a film a first-time viewer goes into blindly, it’s freakin’ Bicycle Thieves!Lowry_Sam wrote: Fri Jan 16, 2026 3:37 amThey earned it all back after Jafar Panahi's visit.Peacock wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 11:47 pm From what I’ve heard Criterion have gone bust after Lav Diaz’s recent visit to the Criterion Closet
The combo of the Fellini and Bergman box sets likely stood out for most, but the volume wasn't as ridiculous as I thought. It was really how quickly he was taking stuff, so much that the video was pretty short!Peacock wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 11:47 pm From what I’ve heard Criterion have gone bust after Lav Diaz’s recent visit to the Criterion Closet
they are still putting out plenty of Blu-ray only titles, so I don't see why this would be an issue at all. they're literally dumping out an old Cassavetes bluray with no upgrades at all, so there's really no reason why they cant other filmsrrenault wrote: Fri Jan 16, 2026 3:55 pm What are the chances of Criterion doing mainline blu-ray-only boxsets for Jacques Rozier and Kinuyo Tanaka, as opposed to relegating them to Eclipse?
I feel like Criterion are just sitting on certain(not commercially viable enough for UHD) titles, because they don't want to give them a blu-ray-only main line release and can't find a place for them in a hypothetical Eclipse set. I'm thinking of films like L'Amour Fou, Il Grido, Four Nights of a Dreamer, etc.
But if Un Homme et Une Femme can get a blu-ray-only spine numbered release, why can't a Rivette or Antonioni film?
It's too bad neither Carlotta nor Radiance got video rights to Four Nights of a Dreamer. Carlotta have the French theatrical rights.Calvin wrote: Fri Jan 16, 2026 4:29 pm I don't think there's any reason to believe that Criterion don't want to put out Four Nights of a Dreamer. It's a Bresson. Janus gave it a theatrical run. They actively outbid the likes of Radiance for the rights. The current wait time is not unusual.
