I think I got a copy of this for free with my DVD player. So they literally were giving this away.

If this is what Arrow is releasing from their deal with WB, one can only imagine the WB titles released by VS (allegedly).

I also got this with my very first DVD player for Christmas 2000! (Along with Seven Years In Tibet and The Mask!) Ironically when buying my UHD player a few years ago I had to literally turn down a complimentary copy of The Last Jedi, so the more things change...!

Another Irwin Allen remake, following Arrow releasing 2006's Poseidon! (I had not realised before this that Akiva Goldsman, who I seem to remember at the time was the one who got the most flack for writing and producing Lost in Space (probably in part also getting the backlash from the previous year's Batman & Robin), went on to produce the Poseidon remake as well! So he must have had a thing for Irwin Allen!) To be contrarian as usual I have a little bit of a soft spot for this film. Although it makes a terrible first impression, starting with the cocky Matt LeBlanc character acting dumbly in his spacecraft. Which may be the single reason why Matt LeBlanc never became a movie star. He does get better over the course of the film, although his character does get more and more pushed to the margins of the action as the film goes on. That applies to the film in general (which is kind of like the plots for three episodes of a show pressed together) as I find that after the whole convoluted set up is done with for getting the Robinsons lost in space and the 'actual plot' kicks in at about the halfway point where the timelines diverge that the film suddenly has something to say, gets a fair bit darker toned, and also most importantly gets interesting themes and deeper character relationships to delve into with the material involving William Hurt's patriarch having to wrestle with the idea of having failed to be there for his suddenly now adult son, and the lost opportunity to be a father to him. So I think it is a film that ends much more strongly than it begins, but there is a bit of a slog to get there.

Wait a minute, Arrow weren't able to get the Apollo 440 remix of the theme tune onto the disc? (Which plays up the annoying Matt LeBlanc stuff at the beginning of the film)

I was trying to imagine what sort of dog's dinner Vinegar Syndrome could cook up with a WB deal, if someone had pointed out that this was a WB film I would have assumed it was too pointless.

IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!

From Abel Ferrara, director of The Driller Killer and King of New York, comes a terrifying revenge-thriller in the tradition of Death Wish and Taxi Driver... Ms. 45 (aka Angel of Vengeance) will blow you away.

New York, 1980. Raped at gunpoint on her way home from work, mute seamstress Thana returns to the safety of her apartment only to be assaulted again by a burglar; but this time she fights back. Bludgeoning her assailant with an iron, she takes his gun and begins to dispose of the body piece by piece. Fuelled by her trauma, Thana sees that sexual threat is everywhere in the city and decides to bring a .45 calibre solution to the problem.

A devastating depiction of sexual violence and female rage, with a stunning central performance from Zoë Lund (credited as Zoë Tamerlis), Ms. 45 arrives on 4K UHD in a brand-new restoration that gives an extraordinary glimpse into the grimy glamour of New York in the 80s and with all its controversial power intact.

An early serendipitious tribute to Terence Stamp, who appears here.

This may seem to have a small amount of extras but looking back at my US Warners DVD from its initial release the only extra on that was the deleted scenes (that was also from the era where 'cast biographies' on the disc were also touted as extras too, but that is not particularly necessary these days!). And of course with the extras seemingly being focused on the technical aspects of the shoot, we are probably not going to get anything dealing with the apparent conflict between Val Kilmer and Tom Sizemore on the set! (Another interesting technical note is that the cinematographer on this is Cronenberg's frequent DP Peter Suschitzky, coming in between his work on eXistenZ and Spider)

This is another one with an important song tied to the film, with the Different Dub remix of a 1980 Police song When The World Is Running Down (You Can't Do Wrong).

One of my favorite discoveries this year. Well paced and written little thriller with an early and OTT performance from Tony Todd as the gang leader (this would make an obvious double bill with his other tower-set movie, Candyman), Ray Parker as a solid co-lead with Gary Frank and a colorful supporting cast in Frances Foster, Stacey Dash and Jan-Michael Vincent. Great on location shooting in pre-Giuliani era NYC, too. Also enjoyed Arrow's new interviews with DoP Ernest Dickerson and Gary Frank.

This is the thread for releases released in 2025.

HERE'S A LITTLE STORY THAT MUST BE TOLD...

In early 1980s New York City, independent filmmaker Charlie Ahearn and downtown artist Fred Brathwaite ventured uptown with the aim of capturing an exciting new underground scene that was happening in the South Bronx, a scene that featured graffiti artists, breakdancing b-boys and two turntables and a microphone. The result was Wild Style, and to many viewers it was their first glimpse of the musical and cultural phenomenon called hip-hop.

In this unique hybrid of fiction and documentary, the story of lone graffiti artist Lee "Zoro" Quiñones trying to achieve success on his own terms is brought to vivid life with support by Fred "Fab 5 Freddy" Brathwaite, Sandra "Lady Pink" Fabara and Patti Astor, and with historic music performances by such luminaries as Grandmaster Flash, Busy Bee, The Fantastic Five, The Cold Crush Brothers and The Rock Steady Crew. To create the score, Chris Stein (Blondie) would collaborate with Brathwaite to produce the actual breakbeats to be used in the film, an inspired decision that would provide a source of obsession among crate diggers for decades to come.

Endlessly sampled, imitated and debated, Wild Style is the truest portrait of the hip-hop scene during its early years, and remains one of the most important music films ever made. Arrow Films is proud to present Wild Style in an exclusive new 4K restoration with hours of brand-new bonus features, vintage interviews and featurettes.

It's pretty amazing that Arrow went through the trouble of making a 120-page book and a 4K UHD + CD for the film that may end up as the weakest selling Arrow title of the 2025 slate. Talk about commitment! There's been only a couple Arrow announcements this year that I've been excited about but this is one of them.

Not to mention a nice tribute to the late graphic novelist Ed Piskor by re-printing the issue of Hip-Hop Family Tree that deals with Wild Style.

And an optional version that comes with a vinyl record! (presumably duplicating the material from the CD)

I binged the entire series last year, and while this film isn't good by any means, I am sympathetic to it for attempting to go a different route than it's predecessors with its weird ass worm/testicle creature thing. However, I could also be giving it a bit too much leeway since I genuinely despised Jason Goes to Manhattan and this was like a breath of fresh air after watching that piece of garbage.
