Many thanks (I suspect your theory is correct about him not writing a full review, or that it's beyond the reach of online archives of his writings): guess he was fonder of Angel than I remembered, although it seems hard to swallow that he'd be THAT rapturous in regards to Sweetie, critic of extremes though he may be.

Announced for blu-ray. Here's Jonathan Rosenbaum's essay on Sweetie. It also includes a letter written in response to Rosenbaum's essay, his subsequent response, and then subsequent partial retraction to his response.

I think it's one of Rosenbaum's stronger essays/explains why I won't be squawking about the upgrade of Sweetie to blu-ray. Plus irrespective of the film, it's a great set, give me a few short films over a couple of hour-long blabblabs any day.

Plus Rosenbaum's mention of Campion's background as a painter, in combination with Rosenbaum's bowerbird instincts when it comes to stills, has allowed me to finally realise how much Campion riffs on Jeffrey Smart's paintings. Which I'll now go back and discover has been mentioned in every article ever written about her.

The first thing I thought when I saw Sweetie got upgraded was "The shorts on the second disc!"

At least, I hope those are getting the upgrade too. They're kind of worth the admission of the disc price alone, and wouldn't be completely out of place on their own disc.
