It has Denis' second best use of music and dancing (slightly ahead of I Can't Sleep) and her only fart joke. That alone makes it a great film.

Perhaps it’s just based on hearing a lot of smooth jazz as a kid, but that scene with The Commodores was magical in the theater. The movie also make you want to buy a rice cooker with lots of lights and buttons.

I think that scene is magical irregardless of your music taste! Regarding rice cookers, Tsai got me there first but it was nice seeing it in a Denis film too

For those who can't make it to BAM,
The Brattle in Cambridge, MA, will screen eight of her films from March 25 to April 11, with the director in attendance for a screening of
High Life on April 1.

Anyone know the best place to watch US Go Home, if any? I arrived late to the screening and am wanting to watch the first little bit.

Speaking of that retro, is there anywhere else to see her Rivette doc, or at least part 1? It looks like it used to be on YouTube, but part 1 has been taken down and only part 2 remains.

Here's part 1, senseabove:

(and here's part 2 for anyone else who can't find it:

I think there might be English subs floating around, too.

Something's wrong with that upload of part 1, because it seems to be part 2 followed by a jarring repeat of a section of part 2.

Kanopy just added both 35 Shots and Trouble Every Day through Cinema Guild

Maybe it was just changed, but I'm seeing Trouble Every Day credited to KimStim, which seems correct since they also released the DVD.

Can't see them on there so maybe not in my country (UK)
However...Arte have Beau Travail up for free viewing in alleged HD. No English subtitles of course.

You're correct. Erroneously thought both were from the same source

Over the last week I watched 35 Shots of Rum, which I absolutely loved and then The Intruder, which I found to be a convoluted slog to get through. White Material is the only other film of hers I've seen, which I liked. I'm trying to make my way through her cannon. I'll take recommendations.

Go straight to Beau Travail without further hesitation

Her documentary on Jacques Rivette is the best I have ever seen about of filmmaker. If you can find it...

I saw them chronologically and it worked well for me so id recommend that. I'd wait on Beau as you get more out of it after her previous films

If you liked
35 Shots of Rum, you'll probably like
Vendredi soir. I feel like that's the closest of her other films.
L'Intrus is one of my favourites, but it's definitely Claire Denis: Advanced Studies, and is specifically designed to provoke and baffle, even on multiple viewings.

Thanks all for the recommendations.
Zedz, I just read the L'Intrus thread. Interesting. I'll have to give it a second chance after I go through more of Denis' films. I'll have to watch it with more of a metaphorical observation which it now seems to me to be, including the title itself.

Yeah, it's probably mine as well. Which is why I kind of hesitated to recommend
Beau Travail as it seems to me too aesthetically similar and if someone doesn't like
L'Intrus then they probably won't like that much either. But I also don't like the apparently much loved
35 Shots of Rum so one should bear that in mind.

And I find Linturs her worst, like 35 Shots and love Beau Travail. They're different enough imo
