Thanks, Finch!

And also thanks for changing your avatar - I find Dennis Franz to be most hard on the eyes, so I appreciate this new "soft focus" glam version! :D

Cathode Ray Tube - long review, lots of framegrabs, four-word conclusion: "Fantastic package. Essential purchase."

Beaver

Another home run for the BFI - can't wait to see this for real.

This paragraph from the Beaver review contains a number of inaccuracies, which I've highlighted in bold:
Extras appear duplicated from the 2006 BFI DVD [1] including the excellent commentary by Christopher Frayling and inclusion of the shorts Naples is a Battle Field (Jack Clayton, 1944, 13mins) [2] and rare RAF film [3] The Bespoke Overcoat. There is a stills gallery including original costume designs, publicity posters, press books and production pictures [4]and an extensive 30-page illustrated booklet including film notes by Jeremy Dyson (The League of Gentlemen).
1. Some extras are duplicated from the DVD, others are exclusive to the Blu-ray.
2. Naples is a Battlefield is exclusive to the Blu-ray.
3. ...and that's the RAF film, not The Bespoke Overcoat
4. For some reason he ignores one of the other new extras altogether, the 14-minute Designed by Motley, even though it's singled out in the press release.

I thought the DVD was something special, but this tops it. Looking forward to receiving this early next week.
I don't think the BFI have put a foot wrong with their Blu-Rays so far, long may it continue.

DVD Outsider and The Digital Fix, both equally enthusiastic. (Both also rhapsodise about the transfer of Naples is a Battlefield).

Hello
I've just bought The Innocents blu ray from Amazon, it seems to have pixellation issues like The Leopard, is it my blu ray player or is there a fault?

Thanks

I'm using the LG BD360, I've contacted the BFI and they've said it may be a problem with playback on VC1...apparently LG players have a problem with this? I've sent the the disc to them so they can investigate. I had the same trouble with The Leopard. The customer service from them was first class.

From Beaver:
This may be exclusive to screeners but a friend with a modified Oppo - saw pixilation at times but my own screener copy played smoothly on my Momitsu 899.

Add me to the list of those with pixellation problems. I bought the simultaneously released THE EDGE OF THE WORLD at the same time, and while the feature on that disc played perfectly, all the extra features suffer from the issue. This makes it seem like something systematic with the BFI's production of these discs.

I played the Edge Of The World and the extras last week and all played perfect on my Sony . tonight I watched The Innocents with the introduction again with no problems.

Maybe I should add that my player is a Philips.

Just ordered this and was unaware of the pixellation issues that have been reported and i've a Philips player too...thing is i only have a small set up so what exactly are these pixellation issues...at isolated spots or widespread and would they still be noticeable on a 32" screen?

Hi again, just heard back from the BFI, apparently there are pixellation issues with some LG and Phillips and some newer Sony models. Its is a player specific problem which very little can be done about.

I'm waiting on replacements, so we'll see if the glitches are systematic. But I only have a 26" display, and the breakup was plain as day. On INNOCENTS from the start, and consistently. I'll report on the replacements when I get them.

I'm kind of disappointed about the picture quality of this disc. I hoped for a lot more differences in detail to the DVD I own.

Got a replacement disc; same problem. It seems owners of Philips and LG players should cross THE INNOCENTS (and THE EDGE OF THE WORLD) off their shopping lists.

Hopefully this will be a problem confined to these discs; I would hate to have to question the purchase of future BFI blu-rays.
