Sure but plugs a few gaps. I went for Curling and The Village Detective, tempted by the Portabella stuff but honestly can't see myself watching them more than once.

All being well, I should be at that very screening on April 21st in Warsaw, and I'm greatly looking forward to it.

I got to see a 35mm print of it with a (brief) Mohsen Makhmalbaf intro at Film on Film last year, one of my all time favourites. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for the heads up. The days of getting Second Run releases on Amazon UK for under 10£ each with cheap shipping to the US are long over.

Arundhati Roy mentioned SR would be releasing the wonderful In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones at some point in the future.

YES YES YES. Such a great little comedy. First Second Run release of a Shah Rukh Khan film too lol (albeit he is on screen for a minute)

Yes, we will be releasing IN WHICH ANNIE...
(and we also have another Film Heritage Foundation restoration up our sleeves that we'll be announcing very soon!)

Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Four Restored Films Acquired by The Match Factory for World Sales

Second Run and Strand are mentioned, so hopefully we see some new home video releases soon.

Has Second Run ever released a box set with more than four or five films? Looks like with these new restorations and the more recent films they'd have seven.

I'd prefer individual releases of Tropical Malady and Syndromes but if it's a boxset in both countries then that's what it is. Have Strand released anything on home video recently? Weren't the Araki films with them but released by Criterion instead?

Strand released Pink Narcissus in February.

Strand still releases DVDs pretty regularly (Drunken Noodles came out this week), but from 2024 on they've only put out one BD a year. A few years ago I would've said that Strand would never license out their Apichatpong titles, given their high profile, but then I thought the same thing about their Araki titles and they've licensed those to Criterion (including Mysterious Skin, per public comments from Araki).

Syndromes and a Century and Uncle Boonmee were previously released by other UK distributors (the BFI and New Wave), so I'm curious whether Second Run now has the rights to those films or if they'll only be releasing the two they've handled in the past.

They could include Mysterious Object at Noon if they liked, but the other films are with other licensors in the UK - Cemetery of Splendour (New Wave Films) and Memoria (Sovereign Films). AFAIK neither company sublicenses their titles, but Uncle Boonmee was previously with New Wave and they've let it go (they did something similar with Jia's Mountains May Depart, which Arrow went on to release). Not sure who has Mekong Hotel, can't remember if it was an extra on either of those New Wave discs or not, so Second Run may be able to rescue that one. I'm pretty certain BFI let go of Syndromes a long time ago, and looks like New Wave did the same for Uncle Boonmee.

I'd be pretty happy with a four or five film set, as I'm satisfied with the New Wave and Sovereign releases of the later films (though still excited to see Uncle Boonmee restored, and not in 1080i anymore either). I think they could even consider doing one or two of them in 4K, but they may have to outsource those, and might be put off as it could set expectations for more 4K titles so we'll see - they are a small label after all.
