I've got a feeling My Sex Life... or How I Got Into an Argument will be offered in 4K given the restoration is at least good. That is, if Criterion indeed got it.

Kidding aside, I’d love Maelstrom or any of Villaneuve’s pre-Hollywood films

I was surprised that Criterion didn't release Polytechnique on this side of the pond when the BFI's came out as the Canadian blu had already gone OOP. There's a number of directors whose early (and in many cases better) works have fallen off the radar after they've made it in Hollywood: Peter Jackson, Paul Verhoeven...

Looking forward to seeing it this week. PFA credit Filmgalerie451 as the rights holder so it doesn't look like anyone has it in the US yet.

If anyone has the Serge Daney collection, Footlights, it has incredible praise for this film and I’ve been intrigued ever since.

Hans-Jurgen Syberberg put it up on YouTube himself

Along with Godard’s Every Man for Himself, this was distributed by Francis Coppola’s Zoetrope in 1980

Are you in SF? This restoration is playing at SF Silent Festival in 10 minutes, but I imagine ar 60 minutes they might add something to it or present in a collection.

I’ve been guessing it for ages - hoping they’d announce it alongside Trouble in Paradise recently. Truth be told, I think it’s more likely Warner Archive will release it barebones (if anyone will), but it’s my ride or die pick now.

(And no, not in San Francisco. Maybe one of these days.)

MichaelB wrote: Tue Apr 14, 2026 7:20 amYou’d probably have to exclude Leigh’s BBC-owned television work, which would leave a gaping hole: as far as most of my compatriots are concerned, Leigh is the man who made Abigail’s Party and Nuts in May. And of course it was in television that Leigh really refined and perfected his approach across a pretty big chunk of his career (1971-88).

That said, the BBC iPlayer currently has a gorgeous 4K UHD restoration of Nuts in May, which may or may not be a harbinger of something.

(Although a 4K of Abigail’s Party would be pointless; it was entirely shot on standard definition PAL videotape.)
I have frequently wondered why there hasn't been a Mike Leigh at the BBC box set after the success of the Alan Clarke set.
They had a BBC Leigh "set" featured on the Criterion Channel sometime within the last six months.. It would be perfect for an Eclipse set at minimum, if not a blu/4k box.

The Criterion Channel has 7 of the the Mike Leigh At The BBC DVD set (SD rips) titles with only The Permissive Society missing.
