Some of those already have 4K remasters, but the idea of Taboo scanned in 4K is exciting to me. Seeing as Janus Films’ massive Oshima retrospective resulted only in the Eclipse set and a few Blu-rays, I’m not holding my breath for a US release. Hoping Shochiku releases this in Japan in a fully subtitled a la their gorgeous Ozu releases.

I would really like to see Taboo again as the last time I saw it on DVD the subs weren't even spelled correctly. I'd wager Taboo is more marketable than quite a few other Oshima films so I'm still holding out hope that Criterion might put it out. But the crown jewel that Criterion actually does own, Boy/Shonen is still MIA so who knows.

I wondered why you were talking about the 1980 incest porn film, not least because it’s already been restored and released by Vinegar Syndrome, and then I remembered that the Oshima film was known as Gohatto in my neck of the woods.

Seemingly, TCM is showcasing a brand new print of 'West Side Story' for their film festival. Some of the changes include the disappearance of the dark fade out during the Overture, as it goes directly from red to blue right before the title reveal, and there is no more lavender color during the "Maria" sequence.

A promo for the 4K restoration of The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm was popping up on TCM during their just concluded film festival programming. I've uploaded it, if you'd like to take a look.

It seems to be the same one recently shown at the annual Widescreen Weekend Festival in Bradford, UK -- an original MGM pre-release announcement trailer reconstructed from 6-perf Cinerama negatives, as well as a 7-channel magnetic soundtrack.

According to restorer Dave Strohmaier, the film is being remastered in both letterbox and SmileBox formats for eventual Blu-ray and DVD release from the Warner Archive Collection sometime later in 2021.

Wow. Now WB needs to get on with Last Summer, China 9, Liberty 37, and Raintree County.

With Last Summer, rather than a lack of will isn't it simply that the elements don't exist? I seem to remember that they'd only found a single 16mm print in Australia.

WB has said on social media that they have the OCN, so who knows. I've seen that 16mm print. It's certainly presentable, but there is so much debate about what is still missing from it.

Wow, Born on the 4th of July and Chabrol's La Ceremonie. It seems like most of Jiří Menzel's major works have been restored now.

The clips from Cutting It Short in CzechMate were vastly superior to anything I’ve seen before. And I suspect it’ll get a Blu-ray release on home turf at least; it was a major cultural phenomenon in Czechoslovakia, even if it didn’t travel well.

On the Home Theater Forum, Kino Lorber Insider speaks comments on a brief bit of restoration done for their new release of The Comedy of Terrors:
"Thanks to the good people at Arrow, we were able to fix the minor edit issue with THE COMEDY OF TERRORS for our upcoming release. And thanks to the fans for bringing this to our attention.
One second was missing. It appeared on the laserdisc from 50:09 - 50:10 min, and should have been inserted into the DVD at 49:18 min. The scene in question takes place during the sequence where Vincent Price and Peter Lorre are attempting to keep a supposedly-dead Basil Rathbone inside his coffin. Price and Lorre finally "succeed" by both sitting on top of the coffin. On the DVD, this scene immediately cuts to one of Price and Lorre suddenly hitting the floor for no apparent reason. This is cut: Rathbone's character is obviously still alive, because he suddenly pushes the coffin lid upward with all his might, and you see Price and Lorre flying up and backwards onto the floor."
