It's an IFC title and was very well received by critics at the time. Surprised it didn't come out around the same time as Che or Summer Hours.

Plus it is a tribute to a Janus film staple. I wouldn't be surprised if they released it with an upgrade of the Albert Lamorisse films. I'm sure that they also have the rights to The Boys from Fengkuei too but at the rate that the WCP films have been trickling out, I wouldn't expect it any time soon.

Is this one up there as a Criterion title? Image had announced a Blu-Ray release several years ago that never materialized. Curious if Criterion might eventually release it.

Just watched both of these. As soon as I finished the HHH, it disappeared. Gone. Maybe it'll show again with it's own banner. Track 29 turned out the better of the two. Complete with a Norman Stansfield screaming declaration.

I believe this is part of their "rotating selection of Criterion films" that are available to the non-Criterion channel subscribers. It does mention that all of the Criterion films will remain on the Criterion channel - but the Filmstruck side will rotate through various Criterion titles at a given time.
Guess its all part of "keeping fresh content" or user demand incentives.

Is that when rights expire? Maybe they're just listing them so you know but I assume they would renegotiate them. They do say dates are subject to change.

Pretty neat that they let us know when titles expire six months in advance. Not so neat is titles expiring before Filmstruck is available on Roku and Chromecast.

I wonder if Tivo (especially Tivo for RCN) will ever get this?

So just so I'm clear on this -- just as an example -- Bondarchuk's WAR AND PEACE is scheduled to expire on December 30, but because it is apparently a Criterion film, it will remain available to Criterion Channel subscribers?

It should be. We don't really know for sure if it will be a seamless process.

Okay, Downhill Racer was just added at the end of November, there's a banner saying "Limited Engagement! Ends December 31" -- I didn't think Criterion titles would expire from The Criterion Channel -- or is it going away along with the disc rights (just speculating)?

Doubtful they're losing disc rights. It's still a Paramount title so they probably only had streaming rights for a short time. They also had The Black Stallion up for a bit but took it down shortly after as well. I think we'll see that often.

There's a distinction between titles Criterion have released on disc they have streaming rights to (the titles on the Criterion Channel) and the ones they don't. They don't have streaming rights to most of their Hollywood and British films, so movies like The Player and Thief are only on Filmstruck temporarily.

A better measure of the whether something is going to stick around on the Criterion channel is whether it begins with a Janus logo. The Player starts with a Janus logo, it's not on only temporarily. Thief, like several other titles that Criterion has released on disc ( Insomnia and Seconds immediately come to mind but I know there are more) is not even on the Criterion channel.
I think most of the things on the Criterion channel will stick around with only a very few obvious exceptions that seem aimed at making the Criterion produced extras available for a period of time (the Silence of the Lambs commentary, the extras for Black Stallion and Downhill Racer)

Didn't realize The Player is on the Criterion Channel -- picked it at random, and I based my statement on the selection on Hulu. But my basic point stands.

I like to turn on subtitles (closed caption) most of the time, and every now and then there's a typo; i.e. [ first time I lt anything], and I knew she said felt, so I skipped it back a few seconds and the word came our right the second time. Weird.

I just got Amazon Fire for Christmas, and once I downloaded this and put something on I heard this small and persistent digital audio feedback. Anyone else have that trouble?
