Only true Alan Clarke fans don't watch Alan Clarke movies.

I truly feel like we all just survived a real-life Jon Wurster character. Even after all these years spent online, there's still room for amazement at the density of some people, as this was "u know how old movie go with acting"-level. As though it wouldn't have been perfectly acceptable to admit, "Hey, I've loved the two films I've seen and I can't wait to see more from this director." At least this year's Richard Cranium will probably not go unawarded again

I've seen nothing by Alan Clarke and can't rightly say I'm a fan yet but I'm thankful people here are making an effort to educate me before I finally watch one. I mention this only because it's proof that he didn't need to act the way he did (As if anyone needed proof but here it is.).

I hope you're saving some of these posts for posterity.

I've only seen one film of Clarke's (Elephant), so I'm very glad to know that I'm at least halfway to being a huge fan of Clarke.

No one is a bigger fan of criterionforum.org's Alan Clarke than I am. MichaelB, when will all his posts be made available? I was a fan since the beginning. He has influenced the way I walk and cook turkey burgers and talk to women at bars, which I do for my TRUE LOVE of his postings.

Hmmmm, I'm 2 titles away from being Alan Clarke's biggest fan, but now I wonder if I should pick up the whole set and experience his films in HD or sample films in shoddy DVD editions and then make up my mind? My introduction to Yoshida and Rivette with Arrow's sets has been great, but not as expensive...

I look at it like this: like the Arrow sets you mention (or all Arrow sets, really), if I don't like it, I can resell it for approximately what it cost me or close enough

Did we ban Alan Clarke? Hope not, I wanted some links to his own docs/short films.

I expect I am not alone in that this ridiculous conversation has far increased my interest in the set and it's absolutely on my list should it be still available when I can afford it.

I consider myself a fan of Alan Clarke's work despite only ever being able to view a tiny sliver of it. The only Clarke project I could find online, that wasn't easily available on DVD, was a VHS-sourced edition of Contact. I must not have been looking in the right places, I guess. If I'd seen Nabob's offer earlier, I would have certainly cashed in. In any case I consider this a dream release, as it will finally allow me to gain a proper perspective on a director I've admired for several years.

So I'd just like to offer my thanks to peerpee, MichaelB, and all their "cronies at the BFI" for this release. I hope you can spare a thought for us real fans while you're out buying private jets and novelty golden thrones with the filthy lucre you received for your participation.

I don't know much about the BFI but the discs I own say it's a charity. I wish I thought of and said that earlier. Well done BFI. For everything.

I'm looking for links, but "Alan Clarke" just brings up boring old TV movies.

I've gotta say, his last post kind of reminded me of someone.

Thanks! I may well watch those when I get a chance...when I've finished watching and then reviewing everything in the Clarke box set, that is. (Number I'd seen before: four of the ones in the set, plus Made in Britain, the cinema version of Scum and Rita, Sue and Bob Too.)

I was much more vividly reminded of a long-banned poster on Blu-ray.com, who wrote in a similarly matey and colloquial style and was also fond of making ridiculously sweeping statements on subjects about which he turned out to know next to nothing.

Having watched and loved Made in Britain and having Rita sue... lined up to watch, I want to see the rest of Clarke's output that isn't in the box (which I preordered). Anyone know where I can find Billy the Kid online (don't want to buy a dvd)?
And I know most people prefer the original broadcast, but is there any issue with watching the film version of Scum before?
Or should I wait for the BBC version and then should I watch them back to back?
