It's such a joke that Ad Astra wasn't nommed for visual effects-- didn't it not even make the short list?

I'm just being cheeky in response to another thread where it was supposed that people wind up where they want in life by sheer will regardless of uncontrollable systemic factors. I believe that they would be happy to be nominated just as I would be happy to win this ballot or be a superhero

Predictions time - to me the excitement is really centred around the screeplay editing categories (although for some reason I'm feeling extreme indecision over Makeup, which I think could go to either Bombshell or Judy). I'm sure the shorts prediction will be catastrophically erroneous on my part - partly because I haven't seen any of them, there're no precursors for them really, many Academy members don't vote here, and because there's very little buzz or attention paid to them, members often vote for the films they genuinely enjoy, unecumbered by any grander narrative.

Now here’s a trainwreck ballot— my favorite part:
[The Irishman's] Martin Scorsese has done this a lot, and often better. Listen, I've seen Casino, in its entirety, start to finish, 20 times — that movie makes you want to be a gangster; this one was depressing; I'm watching my wise-guy heroes for decades as old men.

I like how they have to specify “in its entirety” and “start to finish” as if they either are proud to watch movies the way people normally watch them, or because they know deep down it’s not that easy to watch Casino that way

Casino was the film that made them want to be a gangster? The one that begins with the nominal hero (who is emotionally illiterate despite being mathematically brilliant) being blown up with a car bomb and then looking back on his life? Where someone gets bludgeoned to death in a shallow grave in the desert? Where a woman drinks herself to death after having her vitality drained from her by the cold, unfeeling monster she married? I mean Goodfellas or The Wolf of Wall Street I could just about understand since we are in the reminiscences of a romantic whose main disappointment at the end is that he did not get a flashy death, but has no regrets about the fun he had before he sold everyone out, but Casino?!?!?
But yeah, running a casino looks cool, I guess!

Both films have people digging their own graves, but that’s like the most fun you can have, so I’m torn

Not sure what to do with that...

Unless your post specifically says otherwise, if you post your predictions for the 2020 Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards in all categories in this thread before 11:59 PM Eastern time on Saturday, February 8, 2020, you are entered in the CF.org Oscar Winners Predictions Sweepstakes, with a chance to win the Grand Prize of: naming one (1) 2019 film that is accessible through legal means in an English-friendly version and politely suggesting that all non-winning contestants see and and post about that film within a reasonable time frame or face a penalty of lukewarm public shaming.
Scoring:
- One point per correctly predicted winner
- Tiebreaker: in the case of a tie, the individual who posted their list of predictions earliest will be declared the winner
Just a reminder that if anyone else wants to participate in our friendly, not-at-all-brutally-competitive contest, you have about 4 hours to submit your guesses for the winners in all categories...

I must've missed CF was doing this. I guess I'll predict the other categories. I recall Apperson won the nominees game and wants us to watch I Lost My Body. I saw the film a few days ago but haven't got around to posting on its thread yet. And I see only one person has so far. I'll get to it.
