Battleship, why not. This is what $200,000,000 buys you these days.

Jesus. In he worst economic situation, studios are willing to fork over that much for a movie based on a board game. Anyways, from the shots, music and design of the alien craft, this movie is going to be generic as hell (which means it's going to make a lot of movie).

I know you probably meant to type "money," but I think this is also correct. It seems to be the overriding aesthetic in mainstream cinema these days: to make a lot of movie.

I don't really follow this logic. Doesn't a big budget piece of shit, from conception to theatrical/home video release and beyond, ensure thousands of jobs?

Shameful. This looks like a total ripoff of my script for Tic-Tac-Toe.

Worst possible board game adaptations? Roland Emmerich's Jenga? Ridley Scott's Risk? Neil LaBute's Careers?

I would say Ridley Scott's Monopoly would be the worst board game movie idea possible ... and that one was actually rumoured/quasi-announced at one point.

I'm mildly curious what Zack Snyder could do with Yahtzee.

I'd love to see Michael Haneke give Clue a fresh perspective.

I look forward to Spike Jonze's very self-reflexive Trivial Pursuit.

It's just too bad Kubrick never lived to make Risk.

See, I think the same thing when it comes to movies like this, but to me, it still seems like spending an unnecessary amount of money. I have no problems with big budget films, just with big budget films like this. The movie unions are so tight that even if they weren't making movies like this, they would still be getting work.
Anyways, this movie is going to make a lot of fucking money.
I'm still surprised no one has brought up Terrance Malick's new script for
LIFE.

Clint Eastwood's Buckaroo sounds like it has some potential. Especially that bit where after the horse becomes successful, it gets shunned by the rest of the herd, breaks its leg and has to be humanely put down in a shocking final act twist.

Watching this trailer I suddenly longed for a Yojimbo/Miller's Crossing-type film about the presidential race, with an aide playing one candidate against another. I doubt this will be it, although Gosling's character brought the idea to my head.

Who are we kidding? It's William Bendix's movie!
Although I was thinking more of the novel, one of the greats of American literature and Hammet's crowning achievement alongside Red Harvest.

I disagree. That scene between Ladd and Bendix has to be seen to be believed.

Bendix is so great in anything that I can hardly seriously argue against someone taking his side for long
