Apart from Eva Green and Diana Rigg has there ever really been a meaty role for a Bond girl? Even the extremely talented Lea Seydoux was largely wasted.

One could make a case for From Russia with Love but you’re right and that’s why I really have no actual expectations, yet I’m hopeful all the same, especially in an era where parties converse on whether or not to switch Bond’s gender. Looks like Seydoux might get a second chance here too..?

If anything you would expect the new female 007 to have a substantial role.

And I have never been on the From Russia With Love Train so didnt even think about it

The only 3 roles that come to mind when thinking about good roles in Bond films that good actresses might actually want are

1. Judi Dench, Skyfall
2. Eva Green, Casino Royale
3. Barbara Carrera, Never Say Never Again (I consider this a proper Bond)

Barbara Bach‘s Russian agent Anya in The Spy Who Loved Me was the first Bond girl to at least nod to feminism and who was written as his equal. She is resourceful, brave and competent and is almost as important a protagonist in the film as Bond, sharing more screen time with him than previous Bond girls. She is along for the whole adventure.

Tracy is great and an important character with Rigg being among the best actors to play a Bond girl but revisiting OHMSS recently, I noticed how little actual screen time she has. She is missing from much of the main bulk of the movie.

Considering the original composer was brought in by Fukunaga since he’s worked on a few of his other films, this sounds like the Broccoli estate taking renewed cues from that other producer-run franchise, and gee didn’t that turn out so well

Yeah, hard to imagine a world where the artistic integrity of the James Bond franchise is threatened by the meddling of the Broccoli estate.

I mean, I get the joke, but still, why hire Fukunaga at all if you're gonna step in like this (and perhaps better question, why did he lobby so hard for such a thankless job where this was inevitable?)

Probably not, but picking Adele and Sam Smith for the past two films was the right move, as they make music which broadly fits into the ambience of Bond. I'm not sure Billie Eilish does (but I'm ready to be pleasantly surprised).

For me the great tragedy of recent Bond song possibilities is the loss of Radiohead's title track for Spectre, replacing it with bland and generic soft rock (and I say that as someone who actually really likes the film). The Radiohead song, especially conjoined with the credits as here, is remarkably haunting and would have contributed substantive weight just by association. If I had the tech abilities I'd just cut that sequence in myself as a fan edit.

My thoughts exactly. When A Man Shaped Pool came out, I thought that the track Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief was perhaps another Bond-inspired backup.

Sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom.

My fear at this point, and I'm not a Bond fan especially, is that this whole thing is going to feel too busy and overcooked. I remain hopeful this is going to be good fun because of Craig, De Armas and Fukunaga but this could go either way.
