Timothee Chalamet is presenting Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars, which seems like a bad idea whether Gerwig wins or loses. His co-presenter is Gerwig’s real life BFF Natalie Portman. Gee, how could this backfire?

This happens all the time - and Greta Gerwig was on the other side of it when she had to present Documentary Feature to Icarus instead of to believed frontrunner Agnes Varda. Other examples that immediately come to mind: Banderas and Cruz presenting All About My Mother, Cate Blanchett presenting costume design in 2016 because she was in three of the nominated films. The very funny moment last year when Samuel L. Jackson presented Green Book best screenplay just to get him to present Spike adapted afterwards. It’s just a device to try and maximize the memorable moments, I don’t really blame them for trying! Also Timothee Chalamet probably thinks Taika Waititi is cool and Portman is in his next movie (Thor: Love and Thunder).

Fellow Oscar fetishists who recognize that this one awards show is the final arbiter of the quality of this year's films for all eternity, below is what I have for your submissions; please let me know if there are any data entry errors so I can get those corrected before making my requisite score-tracking errors:

I changed my director vote from Mendes to Bong before midnight but if that’s not kosher no worries

Thanks a lot for doing this, DI!

Got it (though for the purposes of our tie-breaker this bumps you to third-to-last, just ahead of barryconvex and pianocrash)

I didn't predict this year because I feel at a distance from awards proceedings, perhaps because of how uninterested I ultimately am in the nominated films that keep winning vs the nominated films that don't. Anyway, the only Best Picture nominees I haven't seen are Little Women (though LQ has) and Ford v Ferrari, so might as well watch the Oscars tonight and post about it here with you all.

Of the rest...

Great outcomes:

- Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood
- The Irishman
- Joker (less because of the quality of the film than how bizarre and hilarious it will be if this takes away a bunch of unexpected prizes)

Eh:

- Parasite
- 1917
- Marriage Story

I am going to become The Joker myself:

- Jojo Rabbit

I like Janelle Monáe more than most of the “talent” we usually get so I’ll take it, plus the Midsommar costume nod, but yeah unnecessary

How hard is it to read the nominee then show a clip from their movie? That used to work very nicely
