I'd love for Indicator to grab After Dark My Sweet. For my money, the best English language adaptation of a Jim Thompson book (the very best being Coup de Torchon) and an excellent performance by Jason Patric. Underseen compared to The Grifters and superior to the Frears film, except for Angelica Huston. I have no idea if anyone has the UK rights (Amazon UK is not listing a Region 2 DVD and I can only find results for the Artisan US disc). There is an English friendly French Blu-Ray from earlier this year but it'd be nice to see Indicator or Arrow or perhaps Eureka port it over.

Seconded, it's a fantastic neo-noir (I wrote my thoughts a few months back)

After Dark, My Sweet is a masterpiece that I'd love Indicator to release.

Also anxious for another, One False Move.

I just checked the BBFC website and it has not had a home video release since 1991 (!). The rights holder at the time was Virgin Vision.

One False Move is on my wishlist too!

Reckon there's a good chance we'll get One False Move from them as they already did Devil in a Blue Dress.

And perhaps if they fancied more Bill Paxton, I'd love both A Simple Plan and Taking Tiger Mountain, and both would be perfect for a label like Indicator. And if they could wrestle it from Paramount, perhaps even Frailty?

As for Billy Boy Thornton, one title immediately springs to mind: The Man Who Wasn't There. But weren't there rumours Criterion may have that in the works?

Lee Kline confirmed The Man Who Wasn't There on his podcast (the episode with Roger Deakins)

Frailty, that’d be nice.

One reason I’m hopeful for After Dark, My Sweet is that the film has a certain literary as well as cinematic pedigree, which Indicator can be respectful of.

more Don Siegel can only be a good thing.

On the subject of ‘60s thrillers, I’ve not seen Boetticher’s Rise & Fall of Legs Diamond in a long time & am eager to reacquaint, well into the Blu ray era. This is one id love to see. Obviously Indicator have done phenomenal work on Boetticher.

I'd love to see it too, but it's WB so the odds are, putting it lightly, not good.

A shame as I believe it’s not had a release since VHS

WB did put it out on DVD in the U.S. through the Archive line. Barebones but the transfer looks fine.

Thank you M Sanderson for highlighting Rise and Fall of Legs Diamond. I'd not heard of it before and it sounds like a treat. (Goes off to look for the Warner DVD online)

Would love to see more Siegel if possible, particularly Edge of Eternity, Stranger on the Run, Death of a Gunfighter, and Two Mules for Sister Sara.

A close up of the back cover on Amazon fr reveals Carlotta licensed After Dark My Sweet from Lionsgate. If Indicator were to strike a deal with Lionsgate, I'd add Bug, the Friedkin film, to my Most Wanted list (I have admittedly no idea if there is even an HD master for it). I've just gotten Carlotta's disc of the Foley (together with Gremilion's L' Etrange Mr Victor) but would also buy a UK edition if it adds more material on top of the director's interview (and Indicator almost certainly would).

I’m beginning to think that this thread should be split in two, one covering its original purpose (i.e. actual concrete indications of incoming Indicator entertainments) and one for something like Idle Inspirations of Idealised Indicator Entertainments.

That seems like a fair proposition for organization but hasn’t the Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation thread combined the two for seven iterations now?

It does seem Indicator are willing to put out Don Siegel movies when they can, as seen with Charley Varrick, The Lineup & (if the clue has been interpreted correctly) an upcoming Madigan Blu-ray. I’ll certainly support by buying Madigan, and would hope for more Siegel, when materials and rights permit.

Good spot; that's the last still on this page.

Wonder if that means we're looking at possible Universal Noir sets?

I’d hope it’s being packaged with some other films, it’s a bit too ridiculous narratively to stand on its own

The crew behind Indicator appeared on the Indicator Cast, and shared some snippets:

(recommend listening to the interview, as it's really interesting!)

-Confirmed titles: Bartleby (1970), The Swimmer (got in exchange for giving Ishtar back to Sony),

-Ishtar had gotten to a point where the studio was asking for significant cuts to every single feature on the disc and to leave off things already licensed for it altogether, and they just decided to cancel the release instead of dropping it all, the studio did not want anything that discussed the film's past reputation at all, too many sensitivities, they could have done a vanilla edition and decided it wasn't in the spirit of the label

-There will be more foreign language titles that for the most part are being restored by Indicator themselves coming in the second half of next year

-There will be UHD releases beginning next year, including some of the aforementioned foreign titles

-The Harryhausen set was basically offset from coinciding with the Anniversary by COVID, it's still not totally locked as a thing that will definitely happen but they remain in positive discussions with the relevant studios

-They tease a very big, exciting announcement coming in the next few weeks that will be made for the company's 5th anniversary ("our biggest announcement in five years")
