Breathless ‘83 is good news. As much as I like FCE, I’m not a huge fan of how they grade their releases (at least, their early releases). They just have a “same-y” look to me.

I did, but I also barely count them as a label! the movie deserves a lovely edition - I have expected Radiance to announce it just about any month now as their first Universal license. I think it's probably ultimately with Criterion at least in the US though, if Kino got a hold of it they would've put it out long ago

keep up this 7 titles a month thing - that's awesome stuff. there's really something for everyone here. I think we'll see the MGM/Kino dupes come out in really short order personally. worth noting that Ugetsu is the first 4K UHD upgrade of a Kadokawa title, which paves the way for Rashomon and Sansho the Bailiff to be upgraded. I'm sure Criterion really wish by now they had released Cure on the format, especially with the film's resurgence in popularity, but MOC to the rescue! dark horse possibility there: Ichikawa's Fires on the Plain (not sure if restored yet?) or An Actor's Revenge, the latter of which has an excellent BD but would be stunning in 4K. better yet, they could bring over The Inugami Family, which I'm begging any western label to release without me having to pay triple digits for the Japanese 4K

Wasn't there speculation before the Gray's Anatomy release that Criterion was going to release a Spalding Gray box set, but for whatever reason that it fell apart & we just ended up with the 2 individual releases? Both And Everything's Going Fine & Gray's Anatomy are OOP now, so maybe we can hope for a UHD box now?

I'm pretty sure Criterion's Gray films are oop because Soderbergh is trying to put out his own 4k box with those two in it (because he owns the rights personally). If anything's preventing a Spalding Gray box set, it's that.

YES. MoMA screened a DCP last year as part of their program on Paramount and it looked great - not sure why no one has licensed it, which is frustrating. Along with Melvin and Howard and the director's cut of Swing Shift, I wouldn't hesitate to call it Demme's greatest work.

Dawn of the Discs says the Brother from Another Planet is coming from Criterion

He got it from here: A poster at the Blu-ray.com forum said they met John Sayles at an event at their local library and Saylea said Criterion is working on The Brother from Another Planet

I'm only planning to get one out of the seven titles announced for May, but that doesn't mean it's not a great slate of announcements. since I was a little bitter in other threads, I want to take a moment to appreciate Criterion going big with seven titles again two months in a row, and all seven titles being titles that people actually ask for and want to see. there's no tossed off contemporary fifle I don't see a lot of interest for - they're hitting all canonical classics while still covering a diverse array of movies! please keep this up!

I think we can expect seven releases a month for the near future as they pump these Kino MGM 4Ks out.

Also agree about the kudos to the folks at Criterion. Not going to grab everything, but these are the kinds of releases that make a lot more sense for the Criterion of yore. I’m also seeing more consistent excitement online for the actual releases instead of just the brand (and its closet). Probably just a coincidence…

The Night of the Hunter had a couple issues (incorrect AR, missing OG audio).

Is The Taking of Pelham 123 rumored to be coming from Criterion? Currently the Kino is still available at Amazon.

These are the titles that went OOP: Dressed to Kill, The Great Escape, In the Heat of the Night, Killer's Kiss, The Killing, The Manchurian Candidate, The Night of the Hunter, Paths of Glory and Some Like it Hot.

Unless there’ll be surprise audio upgrades like they did for the Kurosawa releases, I’m not expecting any significant changes - rather to the contrary with The Killing and Killer’s Kiss. They’ll surely redo their combo release and put the two films on one 4K disc compared to KL’s separate editions.
