Because a little film called Roma is in his way and this masterpiece is every bit deserving of it's success.
You know that Bohemian Rhapsody is probably going to win Best Picture, right

I can't see it. It couldn't beat Black Panther for SAG ensemble which makes the actor's branch support minimal. It couldn't win the PGA. And with the backlash against Singer finally picking up some momentum I think most voters are going to steer clear of anything that will seem like rewarding him too much. I'd say Roma is most likely with Green Book as the alt choice.

That would make the most interesting of exception speeches and reaction to.

I apologize for being ever more mindlessly obsessive about this year’s mangling of the Oscars, but every time I read about it my (totally disproportionate yet truly righteous) aggravation about it flares back up again:

It will be pretty anticlimactic when it is Best Picture's year to be off aired.

Cold War tops ASC Awards, in something of an upset over Roma; a lot of love for Pawlikowski’s film among some of the guilds.

It's unlikely to repeat at the Oscars but it's very easy to imagine that when limited to a pool of just cinematographers they judge the movie for... not hiring a cinematographer.

I'm not sure if it's been brought up in this forum before, but there's a very strong rumor among the film community in Mexico that the true cinematographer (or co-cinematographer, at the very least) of Roma is Galo Olivares. He was originally hired as the sole DP and then eventually, whatever his reason may be, Cuarón decided to take the credit for himself and demote Galo to A camera operator and cinematography consultant in the official credits. Galo himself signed an NDA and cannot publicly speak about it since it would be career suicide. I mention this because I wonder if a reasonable portion of the ASC members are aware of this controversy, which may have helped Cold War.

Roma and The Favourite have a big night at the BAFTAs

Shout out to Beast for winning Outstanding British Debut; proof that someone beside me has seen it!

I'll echo the shout out for Beast ... I saw it too, but it was just a relatively long time ago.

The four categories to be delayed during the Oscars broadcast will be Cinematography, Editing, Live Action Short, and Makeup and Hairstyling

Don’t be ridiculous. Sound Mixing is the one the people care about; Sound Editing is for nerds.

Even the Academy couldn’t tell the difference between Editing and Mixing and just kept both to be safe.

Mark Harris pointed out that none of these four categories have nominees from ABC's top company Disney... hmm...

Only opportunity for them to promote that quiet movie that I can't remember the name of even though I literally saw it just Friday.

A movie awards ceremony that finds cinematography insignificant -- maybe that's why I quit watching 40 or so years ago... ;-)

Allegedly some of the guilds volunteered to have their awards aired during the commercial break. Of course, that the Cinematography prize is likely to be won by a non-cinematographer couldn't possibly have anything to do with that guild okaying that, right sure okay. I'm like one step away from being an Oscar Truther

I think the doll thing is kind of cool but they haven't seen the Patriot unless they're immortal, so that's prob a bullshit claim overall.

Or, this is a deflection to pretend you didn't just dox me
