Well, amazon's fucked me. They're not sending out the Noir set until September. At least I got it cheap-ish.

When do the new titles show up on Amazon? I've never preordered a Criterion.
I assume it has the best prices for pre-orders.

Do some shopping...generally, the best pre-order prices are at places like Deep Discount DVD, DVD Empire or DVD Planet.

Even though I don't own a code A player yet, a copy of The Third Man is on the way to me over the big water.

Criterion Blu-rays are amazing low on Amazon from $24-26 for the time being. And free shipping over $50 purchase.

Not only are those prices not "amazing low," but it's free shipping on all orders over $25.

Think there's anything to the Amazon wackiness being discussed on the FB? The Seventh Seal Blu-ray is showing up as OOP, but still available from Criterion, while the Che DVD listing has been pulled completely (again, still available from Criterion).
Rushmore still isn't back in stock.
Maybe they just have me paranoid...

Che DVD
Rushmore came back in stock on the Criterion website after a strange month or two off- so I would imagine it might be a little while yet until the retailers get it..
Seventh Seal missing? I would say that Amazon has just run out of supply- but they weren't listed in the "buy new" section but I'm sure it hasn't gone out of print- it being one the better selling blurays and also that the DVD is still without issue... though Third Man doesn't say "discontinued by manufacturer." Interesting.

Has anyone ever used movietyme before? I always used dvdpacific before but since they are looking to go belly-up, it turned that movietyme was the second cheapest site to order from.
Do they send out before the official release date or do they actually stick to it?

I've used Movietyme a few times and found them reliable if rather slow (though I've never ordered new releases or high-profile titles). They are popular in the UK because they are customs-friendly - though in my experience they won't answer any questions about this! You'll find plenty opinions about them here:

When the announcement came that Criterion was losing the rights to the Studio Canal properties, I ordered
Le Jour se leve from DVD Pacific. I also placed an order for
M. Hulot's Holiday as long as I was there. The Carne shipped immediately, and I've had it now for two weeks. The Tati, however, is still unshipped, and now
DVD Pacific is down, supposedly executing a redesign that is taking the longest 48 hours in human history. They've always been a reliable e-tailer, so I hope there's no real problems here.

According to this thread, DVD Pacific issued an e-mail announcing their closure on 8 Feb:

Ouch, that's terrible news, not just for my puny little order but in general. DVD Pacific always gave good service at good prices, sorry to see them go.

I ordered maybe seven or eight titles, and they have been trickling in one at a time. So far, I've only gotten two discs (Pierrot le Fou BD and Grand Illusion) and they've both arrived individually.
Still waiting on the EAH titles and Trafic!

it arrived today, so that was about the same time in transit as it was from dvdpacific. Good to see it arrived ok although they could`ve protected the Lola Montes digi a bit more...

For anyone in the Chicago area: I saw an Orphic Trilogy box set at the Reckless Records on Broadway. It was used and I think at the low price of 40 something dollars. It is on display on top of the bookcases that have their dvd section.

Just got Peeping Tom (which was one of the StudioCanal titles) at my Hollywood Video today. They're selling everything they have and I got it for about $4! Talk about a deal!

I ordered only OOP titles, and the package is already halfway across the US, on its way to me. Pre-ordering is a tougher call, since there's no way to know if Criterion doesn't want this to happen, or if they don't know it's happening. After so many orders, though, they'd have to be pretty clueless. I think you're safe.

Saura set arrived, looking as if someone had used it to smash open coconuts. Wonderful.
