Apple TV+ is shooting a new Cape Fear TV series right now, starring Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, and Patrick Wilson, executive produced by Scorsese and Spielberg, among others.

If Criterion plans to release the Scorsese remake or the original or both, they will probably make it coincide with the series launch, as they did with the upcoming High and Low 4K.

I'm gonna guess that maybe Jia's latest quasi-mid/late/narrative/?-valedictory is getting a mainline and not a 'premieres' release. It's curious that it hasn't been announced yet as a 'premiere' and being a quasi-valedictory they might want to be adding bonus material... after all it is a Janus/Sideshow. At the very worst my guess will mean they announce the premiere line issuance soon.

Are the November 2025 titles scheduled to be announced on Friday, August 15th, or Monday, the 18th?

Criterion almost always announces on the fifteenth of the month. What swo has rather succinctly pointed out however is that Criterion is Criterion and sometimes doesn't do that for undisclosed reasons and everyone collectively assumes every single time that the end times are upon us.

You guys remember the month of the Godzilla boxset? They were like, 3 business days late that time, and the web site kept posting innocuous other updates like 'here's Colm Toibin discussing Pedro Almodovar' and 'happy birthday Wong Kar-Wai!' and 'Klute is now available on Blu-Ray!' and every time they posted an update that wasn't announcements the subreddit lost its mind again

Man, I miss clues. I know the sad reasons why they’re no longer but I wish we still got some version of the New Years drawing.

It's not even out yet but it appears that Guillermo Del Toro has soft confirmed that Frankenstein will be getting a Criterion release:
It's three weeks exclusively and then it can stay in theaters longer. And Netflix is also going to release it on physical media, just like they did with 'Pinocchio.' The theatrical experience is very important. I believe in it. But if the choice is between being be able to make the movie and have portions of the release be theatrical and portions be streaming or not make the movie, that's an easy decision to make. For a filmmaker, you want to tell your stories.

Maybe he’s gone the Wes Anderson route and started insisting on Criterion editions before he’ll do a film.

When you are dealing with the streaming companies, it probably is a good idea to include a physical media release clause.

I remember there being some talk when it came out that they weren't interested in doing special features for it.

Maybe they knew it was their last movie together and there aren’t fond memories of making it

I thought they were reuniting on an original horror film soon?

They’ve said that the shoot was very unpleasant (working with horses and wagon trails in brutal weather) but there’s no indication that it strained their relationship or that the relationship was the source of the problems. Ethan was just so exhausted that he didn’t think he wanted to make movies anymore, and it took until a little after Joel for him to get that spirit back (with Tricia’s help).

Curtis Tsui was on Samm Deighan's podcast to talk about Kenji Misumi and while he didn't announce any releases he did say that they do look at streaming numbers when deciding what to release. So if there is something that they have that you want on disc, make sure you stream it from start to finish.

A user on Reddit posted that they got an email with a free Tiff 50 boxset from Criterion. More info to come.
