What? They've never even
heard of her? Yikes!
How much do you reckon it would cost to get Wes Anderson to drop the name of Hou Hsiao-Hsien the next time he drops in?

[Lots of buzz about James Taylor on the CC Facebook today! Maybe this means we can expect a Blu box of all of his music videos and appearances on The Muppet Show/SNL/Leno!!!] = average logic of this topic

"What are the chances of Fellini's "8 1/2" being upgraded to Blu?"
answer:
"It is certain"

^ And I'll bet it's on tap for January or February, where 9 looks to figure prominently in awards season.

It would be an awful slur against Tony Rayns if they happen to say to him in passing: "We were just chatting to David Fincher and he mentioned this Hou Hsiao-Hsien chap. Are any of his films any good?" ](*,)

Will "The Human Condition" trilogy have a follow-up Blu release?
The Criterion Collection wrote:Not for a long time, much as it deserves one.
damn. I appreciate their humility, but damn, I want this bad.

Regarding a question on De Palma's Blow Out, they answered "not on schedule". Does this mean they have it, just didn't get to it yet?

I'm sure it means exactly what it says: that it's not on the schedule. No more, no less. Probably not productive to read more into it than that.

Someone asked about Hou's
City of Sadness, what with the new print and all, but Criterion shot them down.

Hou, pronounced "Who?"

Has someone asked on Facebook about the possibilites of having more of Kihachi Okamoto's work on Criterion? If not, could someone, please?
Epoch Of Murder Madness is one hell of a movie, for example. Absolutely great director.

One hell of a movie, indeed. It's pretty marketable too. Nakadai at the top of his game.

Criterion says there are "some definite possibilities" with regard to releasing some of the films of the Dardennes. Vague, I know, but still... =D>
Also, there is this gem:

All these Facebook half-announcements must be driving Cinephrenic up the wall, trying to keep the Forthcoming list up to date.

It is. I'm already behind. They should just rename their page "Forthcoming list". I would appriciate if members send an pm on news because it benefits all Criterion fans and lessens the questions regarding what films have already been asked to Criterion (at least some...). I'm surprised that some films asked have already been confirmed and just wasting their time answering it.

I asked about Paul Schrader's Blue Collar. Criterion's answer was : Good Question!
Sounds kind of evasive to me. Anyone think there might be something to that?

"Better than average chance" of Kusturica "getting some Criterion love." =D> I don't know if that means releasing one of his films, or just some intern adding Underground to his Netflix queue, but surely at least this is a step in the right direction.

Probably Underground (New Yorker title). Where is Time of the Gypsies and Black Cat, White Cat? Nobody has released this in R1.

Hopefully if they do either Underground or Time of the Gypsies (and I would love both!) they include the television and theatrical editions, Fanny and Alexander-style.

That was me asking about Hou. The answer was disappointing as it seemed to imply he was off their radar altogether; but maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Criterion wrote:Glad to hear it's a good print, but it's not ours... much as we might like it to be.
Not sure I see it. I agree you may be reading to much into it. It sounds like they have no access to
City of Sadness, but it doesn't say much about his other films (though I suppose if any were imminent they'd have said so).

Well I guess it does, perhaps, suggest that in a perfect world the print would be theirs, so I'll revise my interpretation and take it to mean they harbor a desire to release some Hou!

Some updates:
8 1/2 Blu - should be announced soon, but don't count on it for January
Amarcord - "Almost assuredly" this will be upgraded to Blu-ray in the near future.
Red Shoes & Lola Montes - "No dates, but both will make beautiful Blu-rays"
