Response from Criterion:
Hi Jeff,

Wes Anderson is a good friend of Criterion, and we're always happy for the
chance to work with him. But if there's anything in the works here on "The
Darjeeling Limited," that would be news to me!

I hope this helps answer your question, and thanks for taking the time to
write in!

Sincerely,

Tamara

I won't lose hope. Criterion is using one of them ol' fashioned tricks on us.

Dagnamit!

Do you really think they'd start working on a DVD to a film that hasn't even been completed yet?

They were working on The Life Aquatic during the film's production, and conveyed as much to me a good six months before the film was released. Even if they hadn't started work on the disc, I think contracts would likely already be in place. That said, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Fox, Criterion, and Anderson don't work something out down the line if the film is any good.

I'm sure Anderson has a clause in his contract allowing him to oversee DVD extras, even if it's not a Criterion there's sure to be Criterion-level bonus content.

I'm sure you're right. I really don't care if there's a "Wacky C" on the package or not if he's able to put the same level of care into it as the DVD releases of his other films.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I feel that those three films Criterion put out represent a sort-of trilogy that goes beyond being financed by the same studio and having one lead actor in all three (Murray), and that The Life Aquatic is the culmination of the work Wes did in the two films previous to it. Then again, I could be wrong.

I feel that all 4 of Wes' Feature films are very similar in style, although it's certainly a one of a kind style. And if any of them are a "culmination", Rushmore is his best film. I know two things for sure about Darjeeling already, and that is that I am going to fucking love it, and My mom is going to fucking hate it. Let's also not forget that Bill Murray will almost certainly have a role in the film. to have him not pop up (even for a cameo) is unlikely considering Wes and Bill's history. unless it's already been stated in casting information, I'd bet that Bill Murray is the three boys' father, and he'll play a role through flashbacks or voice over or something like that.

Bill may have a cameo, but I doubt he travelled to India to do it (seeming as how traveling to Italy made him retire due to the distance between him and his family).
He has publicly stated that Broken Flowers will be his last film (for a while).
And for some reason that seems pretty straight-forward coming from Murray.

It would be so sweet if Murray narrated the film as the father from the after-life or something.

Here's an article indicating Murray did shoot his part (as the father) in India for two weeks. The accuracy of part of that article may be questionable, but I'd figure Murray in India to be true. He also has City of Ember lined up so no retirement just yet.

The trailer will be attached to all prints of Sunshine.

Apparently Wes liked the Life Aquatic art so much he's using it again. Can someone with better eyesight than me make out the credit for Satyajit Ray and Merchant Ivory?

So I guess this also indirectly solves the question of whether God could create a doughnut so big that even he couldn't eat it.

I believe what you are really wondering is, "Could God microwave a burrito so hot that He Himself could not eat it?"

Hollywood Elsewhere has a larger version of the poster, but I still can't make that out. It is next to Randall Poster's "music supervisor" credit. I think it might say something along the lines of "featuring music from the films of Satyajit Ray and Merchant Ivory."

I think you're right, and I edited my post to reflect that while you were posting. Notice that Mark Mothersbaugh is not credited at all.

The first two words do indeed look like they could be "FILM MUSIC," but if it's really "Film Music From the Films of" (or something like that) it seems extraordinarily odd. Why would the director and producer of a film get ad billing for music from those films being used in a new production instead of the composer (especially if Anderson is using any music by the very much alive and still popular Ravi Shankar)?

Great poster, love the "Darjeeling Limited" font.

Does "In Select Theatres" strike anyone else as being a bit snobby?

It sounds more realistic than snobbish to me. Certainly here in the UK Anderson's films have been more confined to the arthouse than multiplex circuit.
