I honestly do not get the appeal of those stupid art cards that, seemingly, come with every UK limited edition from every UK label.

Nope, but it brings me back to being a child and taking superfluous movie paraphernalia like this and taping it on my walls/door. Maybe my hypothetical future kids will want them

You know Blu-ray collectors are not letting their kids near their precious limited edition blu-ray sets.

I've never figured out what people do with them. Frame them? Surely not?

LMAO. Truth be told, this thought has occurred to me lately as I think about how life will change if or when I have children (as now a majority of everyone I know is raising children). I now have three pets (partner's doing - I hadn't had one for an eight year stretch since 2011), and though they've damaged only a few titles, it's pretty severe. A friend of mine said, "when you have kids, they'll destroy a LOT more stuff!" Maybe that's why some people had "dens" in their homes?

EDIT: Actually, a bigger concern is that 90% of my library is probably inappropriate for young children. I doubt any kids I have will be diving into the Lynch, Pasolini, Scorsese, etc. films that early in life but still...

I was going to bundle Martin LE with Tangerine but the shipping costs to the US at a fixed rate of 24 pounds pretty much make this an unattractive prospect so I'm going to wait for the Martin pre-order to show up on Rarewaves where the total for both titles plus shipping should be less than SS's charges even if Ravewaves ask for a slightly higher price for each disc. Zavvi is a non starter at 54 pounds.

Could we possibly do a group buy for US buyers? I did not get a notification that Martin could not be shipped to the US (I do have Tangerine in the basket, too, though).

I always go with Rarewaves, they've been super reliable and affordable, with the only caveat being some discs are delayed there vs Diabolik (i.e. StudioCanal titles like The Trial, which finally popped up on Rarewaves the other day). I'm always down for group buys if they make sense, but if Martin won't ship to the U.S., I'm not sure what the advantage would be?

Apologies everyone, in our eagerness we didn't point out that as with Dawn of the Dead, we are only shipping this release within the UK. Any non-UK orders will now be refunded. We have to amend on the store and will be back up shortly for UK sales. Sorry!

Rarewaves it is then and hopefully at a lower price than Zavvi and Diabolik.

Orbit (who I am very loyal to) have announced they will take preorders for the first time on stocking Martin. they've indicated in the past that DOTD is one of their biggest sellers so I'm not shocked if any title makes them try something new, it's this

Are folks here still ok ordering from Rarewaves? I have used them a lot in the last years due to their low shipping rates, but this year I have had four separate packages disappear - all sent from the UK. In one case they sent a replacement that also never arrived. In another they sent a replacement that did arrive. And in two cases they just refunded me the money claiming they were sold out (even though one was clearly shown as in stock on their site). All of this happened in this calendar year. I realize that Royal Mail who they use has had problems and I have waited in some cases 2 months.
If I order from Amazon I have no problem as they track their shipments, but it costs an arm and a leg.

I’m now hesitant on what to do but would like to order the latest LE.

Rarewaves are still the best deal on shipping but yeah...the lack of tracking (and sometimes adequate packaging) is what puts me off. Diabolik has a lot of loyal followers but I had two instances where they took weeks to ship in stock items so I don't really see what's special. Orbit has shipped the next day every single time I've ordered from them, and I just appreciate their dedication (their social media is a kind of collector's treasure trove) and fact that they have a physical store too. not to mention they get numerous UK releases before street date and ship them in time too - The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari UHD already sits on myself, which it would not if I had ordered direct (as much I want to support these labels)

everything beats Amazon of course.

Thanks ryannichols7, I didn’t know Orbit and their site does look very nice. Unfortunately I’m not in the US in the foreseeable future, and I’m not sure they ship outside the US, so I’m looking for alternatives in the UK. I used Zavvi as well but it’s more expensive and similar to Rarewaves as their packages are often sent without tracking, although some are tracked.

I've had several orders shipped to the US from Rarewaves and never had anything lost in transit.

Same and they always arrive in good condition, even with the occasionally suspect packaging

Glad to hear that others didn’t have problems, I must have been unlucky. At least they have great customer service and will reimburse me when something doesn’t arrive.

I've only had one Rarewaves item go missing, and unfortunately it was a limited edition box that had gone OOP and I had to scramble (and pay more) to replace it. There was no problem getting a refund after the expected date of arrival had passed.

My only Rarewaves pique is that when I do place large orders -- and I try to take advantage of that flat $4.50 shipping fee -- however they break down shipping for consolidation can result in a zillion shipping notifications and separate packages. Though this has gotten better. (A recent order of seven items came in only three packages, all of which arrived the same day.)

I ended up going with Grindhouse who have the most competitive price at $47 for the LE plus $4 something for shipping. Crucially, they allow you to edit the shipping address since I may be moving to another state in February, right before the film is released. Orbit's preorder page went live at noon but they won't let you edit or cancel the order once you've made it and their LE price was $52 before shipping. Grindhouse's total of $52.67 converts to 43 pounds at today's rate which is likely to be about the same or marginally more what rarewaves would charge and the fear of missing out on the book and CD from the LE made me take the plunge on the Grindhouse offer.

Might anyone be interested in a group buy for SS's Texas Chainsaw Massacre 4k in early February? (I know the pre-order goes live sometime this month but I can't afford it before February) I'm sure Dark Sky's edition is going to be fine but I'd prefer the UK release.

I actually think with the conversation rate it’s cheaper to order these discs from sites like Rarewaves, shipping and all- they usually go for the same number price in USD as they are in pounds on SS’ website, so wouldn’t it be more expensive to buy direct, even in a group buy (and even if shipping was free, which I don’t believe it is)?

Second Sight's shipping gets marginally a little cheaper the larger your order is, but they also have quantity limits. It's possible it could be a good deal for everyone if you get just the right mix of people and products. Either way, I'm definitely going to want both this and Crimes of the Future
